hello to all of you. :D
today is my first day of gaining control of my life and eating habits.

i am soo excited and very motivated to loose my extra weight that i accumulated after having my two kids, and have done nothing in the last three years to change that. well today is the day...............

i have a couple of questions though on my choices for phase 1.

i understand the no carbs in phase 1, but i also noticed that when i grabbed for a bag of dry roasted peanuts the have carbs. does this mean they are off limits until phase 2?

for breakfast this morning, i had 2 hard boiled eggs mixed with a little may and yellow mustard. and a glass of water.

snack, 4 slices of salami and 4 slices of deli turkey.

for lunch i plan to have tuna and a pickle. and water

i did have a diet coke this morning as well, usually i have 2-3 cups coffee with cream and sugar, very hard to go without that this morning, and have drank so far 4 8oz. glasses of h2o.

am i on the right track?

for dinner i plan to have a steak, sauteed mushrooms, and asparagus.

could someone please tell me. thanks

You can do this! One suggestion: You need to increase your vegetable intake dramatically.

At least a cup with each and every meal-- whatever you like that on the approved list. Asparagus, brocolli, spinach, cucumbers, squash, tomatoes, and of course lettuce. You need all of the fiber to fill you up. The snack of 8 slices of meat (even if lean) is too much of one thing at once, and there's no fiber to go with it.

Put that lean turkey in a salad with romaine lettuce, cucumber slices, some grape tomatoes, pepper, a sprinkle of lowfat cheese, olive oil and balsamic vinegar and you have a nice lunch.

it was very thin lean turkey breast, almost slivered.
and the salami was the sandwich salami meat. so really no that much.

i did increase me veggie intake. thats mostly what i had with dinner, and i only ate half of my steak and have been drinking so much water i pee every 20 minutes.

lost 2 pounds since yesterday, i know i know its water, but still!!!

Hi Kate,

Your meal plan looks very appetizing and very appropriate. Just make sure to keep getting those veggies in! You don't have to follow the meal plan at all, just keep sticking to the Phase 1 food list.

Good luck to you and to Julieboolie, looks like you guys are going to do great on this diet! :D

this looks more like an atkins menu than south beach. you should cut out the saturated fats (salami, mayo, cream). just make sure the steak is lean beaf (ex: sirloin). Also, add more "good" carbohydrates to each meal - fat free dairy, or non-starchy/sugary veggies. also, for nuts, check the label and make sure that there is no sugar added, and ideally, no or very little salt.

good luck!

Mayo should be fine since most brands use canola oil now. But definitely cut back on meats and add more veggies like everybody said. SB is not "no carb," but low in bad carb.

im following this diet. im following this diet havent even seen a sample of the atkins diet.

i had maybe a teaspoon of mayo, lowfat no card salami, which i looked at and saw it had less of everything. and as far as cream goes, i didnt have any i wrote that i usually, which means used to!!!!

i thought this was suppossed to be a supportive thing, instead of telling peole what they are doing wrong and making them feel stupi. being that i have lost 3 lbs. since yesteday i must be doing SOMETHING right!!

I don't think anyone is trying to make you feel stupid. You asked for opinions and suggestions, and that is what they are giving you. I thought the same thing as one of the others that replied to you, your menu did look more like and Adkins diet. Maybe you should re-read SB and you will see that the salami, no matter what the package says, is not good for you. In fact, the book does say to stay away from any prepack deli.

reply to post above:
I am new to this board. So I know I will make mistakes. I want the members to tell me when I am doing something wrong. Constructive critizism helps. This is not the place to have people tell you only what you want to hear. This is the place to be totally honest and work as a team to all meet the same goals.

I am having trouble already keeping my self on track. I am going out to lunch today with a girlfriend. This will be a good test to see where my head is at.

We can do this!!!!

Thanks for the feedback Bunny!

We should remain supportive of one another and take feedback as given. I appreciate any feedback received from you guys...positive or constructive. I am on day three and doing great. My treadmill is being delivered this afternoon and I'm so excited to incorporate exercise with this plan. I WISH EVERYONE THE BEST OF LUCK AND LET'S KEEP TALKING ABOUT OUR EXPERIENCES FOR ENCOURAGEMENT

I hear you all!! I am ready to shed off this excess weight! I was steady at 143 for a long long time. Then in 2000 (New Year's Day), I quit smoking. Gradually I have been gaining weight, almost 10 lbs per year. I am currently about 175  I am still trying to figure out the best way to shed this weight, as I am a very fussy eater. I would like to get back down to the 150's. Being in my 30''s now, I think that is reasonable! Maybe I can get some input....

I enjoy all fruits except apples, I like kiwi & bananas especially. I am not a meat person, but I am leaning to do different things with Chicken so it's not so bad. I have an awful sweet tooth & I have a mad passion for ice cream. That is my biggest weakness. This week I am basically trying to condition myself. I have been drinking over 70 oz of water per day & trying to eat lower carbs, just to get used to it.

None of my shorts from last summer fit me & I am getting desperate. I am embarrased to go see my mom, because I feel like I'm huge in comparison. I k now I'm not huge, I am 5 ft 9" but I used to be so much more slender.

I would love any advice that you all can give me, I am living on a limited income, so some of these fancy recipes just aren't possible.

I guess on the good side of things, I don't like chips, french fries & tatertots, like some of my family members do, but on the bad side I don't like beef, or fish...

Anyway, thanks for offering such a greaty community, I can't wait to get some input from you all!!!!

Oh yeah, I bought myself a new pair of sandals, but I won't allow myself to wear trhem unless I weight in the 160's. They have been new in the box in my closet since last month!

Feather..By following this diet, you can get back into the 150's very easily. If you don't have the book, go ahead and purchase it b/c there are some great recipes. Has anyone bought the small book "Good Carbs, Bad Carbs?" IF so, is it helpful?

Sugar-Free Jello with Fat Free Whip Cream is a great dessert that the South Beach Diet encourages!!!

Give it your best shot Feather...You will be amazed at the results...I'm on day four and down 4 pounds!

I know!! I am so excited, just from "watching" this week I am less. Last week I was 176.5 & today I was 173!!! This is gonna be great! I'll have to get the book over the weekend! Thanks for the advice! 8)

Also, that's great about the sugar free jello!!! I love it with just a tad of free cool whip!!! It definitely curves the cravings for sweet stuff!!!

Thanks again!! :D
