Hi. I'm an editor at a national women's magazine and we are working on a story about the South Beach Diet. We're looking for success stories who are at or near their goal weight and willing to share their experience along with before and after photos.

Beth, I really hope you don't work for this magazine...
that always has pictures luscious fattening desserts yet teasers about yet-another dieting scheme.
Also, you may not like our ways around here too much.
We generally eat stuff with just sticky labels you peel off.
Generally just shop for multi-grain, whole-grain cereals, fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, lean meats, plain yoghurt, some nuts, stuff like that.
I'm not sure your highly-processed, beautifully packaged-and-marketed advertisers would get all that excited about our weight loss secrets 'round here.
Sorry, hate to be so blunt.

Are you suggesting those have sound, consistent, clear nutritional advice.
I admit I'm guilty of lumping them all a bit together when I read their advice while standing in the check-out line, but most of the articles cause me to shake my head in utter disbelief. And in compassion for so many people, how they could become so confused by reading this stuff - often with a given article heavily emphasizing some obscure point of dieting technique while never presenting the big picture of it all.
It's just that the Woman's World covers seem to be the most over-the-top in their presentation of the contradictions. |
