(With apologies to "The Electric Company")...

I'm brand new to SB and this board, and I can tell already this site will be a lifeline!

I am entering day 4 of Phase 1. Hubby and I are both WAY overweight and need to lose 100+ lbs. I'm so thankful there is a place I can chat with people who know what it's like to have to talk yourself into fighting "just one more round" with the scale.

A few years ago, we tried Atkins and lated only a few months. Food selection was so limited, and we were concerned about the emphasis on red meat/saturated fats, etc. We like SB much better because overall, it just seems to offer a more healthful eating plan.

I've always battled weight problems. The last few years have been very stressful, and I've drugged myself with food. I lost my sister to cancer age 38 about 6 years ago, and it's taken me this long to really cry about it. I cried during her treatments, etc., and I held her hand and told her not to be afraid to go to God when it was her time. But in the years following, I've had strained relationships, crazy jobs, etc. Instead of crying (or even just screaming) to let the stress out, I buckled down and told myself to "cry later" but have another piece of cake now.

Today is "later." Long story short version: 35-yr-old hubby almost died last year due to a blood infection, had to have open heart surgery, etc. We have a 4-yr-old, and I just prayed I didn't have to tell her Daddy's gone. I didn't. He's back to being fairly healthy, on lots of meds, and is even more incentive for dropping the weight.

I will have lots of questions, and I hope I'll make some new friends in here to buddy with, and Life Guides to show me I (we) can do this!
