I just read that sore muscles means you are retaining water. Is this true? And if so, why do we retain water? How long before we get rid of it?
Thanks! |

I may stand corrected, but your muscles retain water b/c they are repairing themselves from the workout. I don't know how noticeable the water retention is, but you may or may not "lose" b/c you're building muscle. So when the water weight is gone, you'll have more muscle mass.
Just ignore that weight and stretch and keep exercising.

Soreness of muscles can result in some water retention to support healing. Lasts about as long as the soreness.
Worth knowing though that a bit of periodic healthy muscle soreness and corresponding pound or two of water retention is a much better alternative all-in-all than a avoiding exercise and going down the fat rentention route.
Sometimes I think fat loss would be a better goal than the less specific weight loss goal. |

| you guys are most definitely right! I have a love/hate relationship with sore muscles. sucks because they hurt, but you know you did something right! I'll take sore muscles over fat any day! I was just curious... Thanks! |

| I just experienced it. I added weight training and I was really sore the next day. I gained a total of 2.5lbs over 3 days and after my muscle went back to feeling normal, the extra weight came off. Good to know why I gained. |
