Love That BellyDance!

In September my gym offered a beginners BellyDancing class once a week for an hour. I used to dance when I was younger, and I love it. Something about moving to music makes me want to do it for hours - no matter how hard I'm sweating! The class was fun, but not the greatest for cardio exercise. I decided I'd keep doing it anyway, and continue with my regular cardio program as well (never hurts to do a little extra!). I learned lots of good moves, got some dance steps and music from the instructor to practice at home, and had a blast.

The class ended in May and will resume again in September, but I decided to try it on my own at home. WOW - what a workout I gave myself today! I practiced some of the dances in my air conditioned apartment, and I was sweating my butt off shortly into my 45 minute workout. I could take it at my own speed, so I was able to give myself a much more vigorous workout. Since I was dancing alone, I was able to stand close to the full-length mirror I drug out into the living room with me, and I could definitely see the muscles working, and my body looked damn good! (Mind you there is definitely still a nice layer of flubber on my belly, but otherwise, I looked good!)

If you enjoy dancing, and you have the opportunity to take a belly dancing class, I highly recommend it - for the young and old alike! At 24 I was the youngest member of my class - most women were in their 30's, 40's, and 50's. Fun, fun, fun!
