why are you going to fast food places to eat? because you have kids?

they don't need that junk either. besides it's gotta be cheaper to feed everyone at home.

I agree.

Salad out: 5 dollars
Head of lettuce (which can make 2-4 salads):3 or 4 dollars
Eating at home with your kids: priceless.

No seriously, buying your own salad stuff is cheaper. If your kids are dying for junk food, make a salad and bring it with or drive thru and just pick up stuff for them and bring it home.

Btw, Subway doesn't premake salads.

I agree on showing your children good habits by eating at home.

An alternative is to go to Denny's type places where you can get the kind of salad you want.

Well, if you must go to fast food restaurants, how about Wendy's (their chili is good, and I think their small side salad doesn't have any cheese on it) or someplace like Subway or Quizno's where you can have them make a salad for you. Burger King's motto is "Do It Your Way", so ask to speak to a manager there if they won't make you a fresh salad. It's not a bad idea to ask to speak to a manager at any place that refuses to make you a salad without the cheese on it, especially since you have a food allergy. A manager is more likely to understand that not giving you what you want means losing the business of your whole family (and don't be afraid to walk out). The 16-year-old behind the counter making $6/hour doesn't care.

You could also go out for pizza - most Italian places will have fresh, homemade salads on the menu.

However, I have to say that I agree with the other posters about not going to fast food restaurants just because you have kids. Sure, McDonalds is a nice treat for them (I remember fondly when I would go as a kid, but it was for occasions like a good report card), but it shouldn't be a regular occurence. I know it's hard to say no to them right now, but the best present you can ever give them is good eating habits. Think of how hard you are struggling to lose weight right now - do you want your children to be in the same position in another ten or twenty years?

I am not really into the political over-the-top kinds of things, but I rented the movie "Fast Food Nation" the other day and it will be a long, long time before I take either of my precious kids to a fast-food joint again.

Although they may want it, if it's not good for them you are not doing your kids any service by getting them junky food regularly. What you are doing is setting them up for a lifetime battle with obesity and potentially other health problems, too. You're the only mom they've got and you need to help them build better habits in their life.

I haven't seen "Fast Food Nation," but I saw "Supersize Me." Watch it, and you'll never want fast food again. I know I don't.

ok well how about you get a grilled chicken sandwich, and ask for no bun and extra lettuce. then atleast you have something on plan. or a veggie burger with no bun. i am sure places will do that, and if not then just immediately take the meat out of the bread and throw the bread out! lol

I get a "low carb" (no bun) grilled chicken sandwich at Carl's with no problem.

well first of all let me respond by saying i never said i took them all the time , but as one person implied , it is more of a reward and stuff , not a daily thing. and when we do go they get the healthy aternative like apples instead of fench fries and juice instead of coke . as for not answering you guys back thta was not intentional, i had not been on my computer, do to a death in the family , but i did appreaciate the positive imput. and do thank you for your answers . and will try them next time. and no i do not want my kids to end up like me , and that is the reason i do cook at home 98 % and take them to excercise with me . but thanks for your concern.

oh and ladybug i have to agree you are the meanest ! thanks for the kick, when i needed help, i thought we were here for support, silly me.

Didn't see anyone kicking anyone here at all.

Problem as stated: Can't get salads without cheese at fast foods restaurants because they aren't set up for custom orders.

Solutions as stated: Don't eat at fast food restaurants and either prepare food yourself at home or go to other types of restaurants that will honor your needs and desires.

Support is different from enabling.

You may also want to think long and hard about teaching your kids to use food as a reward. There are so many other ways to reward children.

Nessa was being honest, not kicking anyone, she's a very blunt person.

Personally, for fast food salad, I like Subway-they build it right in front of you just the way you ask them to and they're enormous. Of course, they're more expensive than a McD's salad but it's worth it.
