You may also want to think long and hard about teaching your kids to use food as a reward. There are so many other ways to reward children.

I agree with this. How about a small toy, a trip to the park, swimming at the beach/pool in the summer, ice skating in the winter, a sleep-over with a friend, etc.? All of these are, IMHO, preferable to fast food as a reward. |

how is letting you know that something you're doing isn't a healthy choice and suggesting alternatives being "not nice"? if you ask me, you should be thanking nessa for being straight up with you when others would just tell you "it's okay, do better next time." her advice was spot-on. |

i wa not cheating i was just trying to see how i can get a salad without cheese, and what alternatives i could do, like someone implied to take off the bun from a chicken sandwich. that was what i was wanting to know!
being told do not eat fastfood was not even what my original question was . i wanted to know if anyone had suggestions on how to get salads without cheese. and being told to eat at home did not help me. 98 percent of the time i do cook at home but sometimes , like when we are out of town i cannot cook at home . so was wanting to see how i could still eat the south beach way if i cannot have a salad that is pre made with cheese.or if we are out with other people. either way was wanting options cause i am trying. |

You can try buffet style places such as Shoney's, Golden Corral, Ryan's, places that have a salad bar where you can build your own.
Subway does salads as well and will build them for you the way you want them to. |

I'm sorry. By all means, eat out when you're on vacation or whatever. Get a sandwich that is bunless or chili. By your original post, you sounded like you were making excuses as to why you couldn't eat a salad and just wanted junk instead. Forgive me for giving you unhelpful advice. Next time, I'll keep my nose out.
Some of us here are trying to be helpful (Nessa included) but I guess that's hard to do if we misunderstand.
I'm fortunate not to have troublesome food allergies, so sometimes I can't relate to having ordering difficulties. I also have no money to eat out very often so I rarely look at "out" menus either. I'm sorry you're having a hard time ordering food from those places and good for you for cooking at home.
I wish you all the best on your journey on SB. Hopefully you'll soon learn how to adapt to the lifestyle and won't need our unhelpful remarks.

well if that's the case then eat the cheese and get over it. truthfully one of the reasons i don't sweat it so much when i eat out is that we eat home most of the time and therefore can allow ourselves a bit more leeway when we are out. |

Nessa, she can't. She said she's allergic to cheese.
Do they put cheese on a Caesar salad? I was trying to think of that, but I can't remember.

Oh well. I guess for eating out, side salads would be the way to go if you're just driving through. Or chili. Or if desperate, the bunless sandwich. I know from experience though that a piece of chicken, a leaf of lettuce and slice of tomato don't fill me up enough. But when you're stuck and desperate...

To the OP-
Just curious, but from your first post, it seemed like this was the first time you encountered this issue. But, if you have a cheese allergy, haven't you had this occur to you generally in the past, maybe not with salads, but with other items?? I find it odd that this would be the first time you've had someone not able to accomodate the cheese allergy.
I mean, I have a lactose issue and have to be extremely careful in what type of milk I get (prefer soymilk, but can do FF or 1% if necessary), it's not like it's a shocker to me that some places don't carry soy or even skim milk. From past experience, pre-SB I looked at the menu and if I know that I can't get what I want, I don't eat there in the future.
I guess, just let this be a learning lesson of sorts, and try to find restaurant options that work for you (like Wendy's). |

| to paige T , you would of thought i ahd inc0ounted this before but since i wa not eating very well salads were not on my list till i started eating the south beach way again, and i had bought a salad before and they were not pre made before but maybe i was wrong or i just got a cook that was willing to make it but before i was on diet i was not aware that they made the salads before hand, but now if they do not want to make me a salad without cheese i will just go some where , like the places i was told that do make them like subway. sorry about your lactose problem, my daughter cannot have milk either she gets really sick , she is allergic to it . good luck . |
