I was doing great on the SB diet losing about 2 lbs a week on phase 2.. About 6 weeks ago I decided to change my workout routine. Basically I started doing less aerobic exercises and more strength training. Thats when the weight loss stopped :? I feel like a yo yo basically going back and forth from 220 to 217 :( Whats funny though is that people still tell me I'm losing weight. Anyways, lifting weights has increased my strength tremendously as I can now do 15 push ups as apposed to none 6 weeks ago. While feeling stronger is great, my goal is to lose fat...! As far as my diet goes I feel that I'm eating the way I should be, making sure I'm eating good grains, carbs, fats, and proteins from a variety of foods. I actually feel energetic throughout the day.
Anyways whats bugging me is that for 6 weeks Ive been at about 220lbs. Could it be that the fat is being replaced by muscle?
Should I just cut out lifting weights and do more cardio?
Should I just kick the scale to the curb for the time being? |

YES could be muscle gain which is great!!!
Use a tape measure and check if you are losing inches! |

| Joe, I think we are in the same situation. I have a three pound range, 157 - 160 and every a.m. when I get on the scale, I feel like I'm gonna scream if one of those numbers shows up again...but it does. I will say, I have added a ton (overstatement) of visible muscle and the thing that's keeping me going is that I have been keeping careful track of my measurements. If you haven't done so as yet, I highly recommend it! |

Increasing strength training is a great idea! However, why'd you cut back on the cardio??
Cardio is the most critical thing for fat burning, so I'd step that back up... but don't cut back on the strength training either, both will benefit you!
Good luck :) |

| I measure once a month. So far, that has allowed me to see losses each time I have measured. I'm afraid that if I measured more often, I wouldn't see any results and that would be discouraging. (That doesn't keep me fron weighing everyday, however!) |

| Once a month sounds good.... I'll probably start weighing myself every other week. As long as I see positive results with the measurements I'll be happy. :? |

| Right, health and fitness aside (I'm assuming everyone wants those), what really matters is that you're getting smaller. I don't give a fig what I actually weigh...I just want to wear a size 6! |

This is SUCH a good point maltby and it really seems like a lot of "dieters" completely lose sight of this fact.
I mean, the number is just a number. Other people aren't going to be seeing this number unless you tell them or they see you get on a scale for some bizarre reason. What they ARE going to see is how much smaller and fitter you're getting, and how much better your clothes fit - isn't that what's important!?
And I'm not just meaning it's what's important to other people... when I lost weight during P1, I was kinda excited... and I did feel a little smaller too.... but it wasn't until I started exercising - losing AND "tightening" everything up, that I got really excited... I just "feel" a lot better in my body, and that is amazing :) |

| It is pretty exciting when you can look at yourself "nekkid" in the mirror and see the difference. I've just finally gotten really regular with my strength training and I can so see the difference. It's amazing how much control you have over not just the size, but the actual shape of your body. |

The surprising part is that with time and continued exercising the changes continue even if the weight decreases only slightly. I remeber looking in the mirror BodyPump just a few weeks ago to check my form and saying to my self, hey thoses biceps are looking good, better than I though! |

And the number means different things for different people. 190lbs for some people means a size 16 and for others a 10. |

That's right, Carrye. I'm only 5'4" and I still weigh 157 pounds, which sounds pretty heavy, but I'm wearing size 8s because I'm so big-boned.
Bob, give me hope that this 51 year old youngster can have one hot body! |

at 5'4" when i was wearing size 8 jeans (at 31) i weighed 160 pounds...
i'm just under 5'3" now and the goal for me is about 180... not because I'm lazy but because of how my body is constructed and composed.
the scale means NOTHING... |
