i was writing for my dh....he doesn't really drink water. only diet coke & tea.

he's been eating salad, lean beef, chicken breasts, broccoli, steamed veggies....that's about it. he has eliminated sugar free candies becuz they don't agree with him at all....but he's STILL having diarrhea.

I've been eating the same things & have the opposite problem....constipation. ???

How many sugar free candies was he eating and when did he stop? The over use of sugar alcohols could be why he is still have this problem. It may take him a few days if he upset his system with overuse. He can have fat free plain yogurt and the culture will help him to balance out...or get him acidophulus pills. If it continues for more than a couple of days, you should consider calling your doctor.

As for your consitpation....are you taking any fiber supplements? Psylium is always good for that and also..drinking all your water!!

Nessa is right...he needs to drink his water too. How much diet soda is he drinking each day?

His diarrhea started before he ever tried the sugar free candies....but that aggrevated it. He drinks probably around 4-5 cans of diet coke a day. Sometimes less.

If he doesn't eat the veggies, it seems to subside a bit, but he can't just eat meat.

Hmmmm...4-5 cans of diet coke could also be an issue for him if his body is the kind that is snesitive to sugar alcohols. I'd suggest to him to cut way back and up his water.

Also, sounds to me that he may need to eat only cooked veggies for a while as this may help his digestion.

I usually never say this to anyone but if his condition is bad, he may want to eat cooked starch( old fashioned oatmeal, sweet potato) for a couple of days as it'll help his insides as they heal. Then return to do phase I when he feels better. His insides sound to be very inflammed from not being used to eating all the veggies combined with his sensitivity to the sugar alcohols.

So I'd back off raw veggies for now and consider eating some starch. And please tell him that he has got to drink all his water!! OK?

It's medicinal water. Like the medicinal whiskey the pioneers kept around the homestead.
