I don't even watch the Sopranos, but this is what I heard.
I guess some episodes back there was some "foreshadowing" done in the plot that someone explained to Tony that when you get shot it is just black and nothing else. Then there is also the unwritten rule that you don't kill someone in front of family.
The theory being that they waited until Meadow came in so that his whole family was there, and then shot him. That is why the last few seconds were from Tony's perspective looking at some "enemies" from prior seasons, then Meadow walks in, then it is - literally - lights out for him.
