| Does anyone ever get a weird taste (almost metallic) in their mouth between meals or snacks? If you have- what have you done for it and/or may this mean a vitamin deficiency of some sort? |

| perhaps its ketosis? (from eating too few carbs) I think I remember that that being a side effect of that - I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. If you're not already doing so, try adding some more vegetables, beans and/or dairy and see if that makes a difference. |

| Bad breath or "keto breath" is often a side effect of going into ketosis, but it is usually associated with a "rotten apple" or "overly sweet" type of condition, not metallic as far as I know. Perhaps some medications or supplements might be the cause? Mayo clinic suggested to try eating with plastic utensils as well. Might want to give your doctor's office a call and ask them as well! ;) |

| Re: ketosis side effects, some people do describe it as a metallic taste, actually, so I'm with Sarynit. What are you eating? |

Thanks for the quick responses! I just read up on Ketosis- very interesting. I should probably check in with my MD just to make sure all is well.
My typical day is:
Breakfast: Oatmeal/almonds/banana
Snack: String Cheese
Lunch: turkey chili/cut up veggies
Snack: Apple w/ PB
Dinner: (varies)- last night: chicken over rice w/ side salad
Dessert: sf pudding and berries
What do you think? |

| Actually, looks like you have a fair amount of carbs in there via the fruit/oatmeal and veggies. Ketosis usually kicks in when you have little or no carbs. Could also be medicine or vitamins if you're taking anything along those lines. I'd probably check w/ your doctor - never hurts. |

| I think you can also suffer ketosis if you diet is too short on calories in general, not just too short on carbs. So you might want to do a quick check to just make sure you're eating enough. I know I get the metallic taste when I haven't eaten enough food, even if I've had enough carbs. |

Also, it may not be "diet" related...
Have you recently started any new medications? Antibiotics, some vitamins, antidepressants, etc. can be the cause of a "metallic" taste in the mouth.
As well as a tooth infection or other oral problem.
ETA: oops... I see sarynit covered the medications... :D |

I sometimes get a "metallic" taste or smell when I'm getting a sinus infection. Allergies may have the same affect.
Something else you may want to look into... |

| It may also be possible that you're detoxing, I suppose. |

Funny... I replied to this post a few days ago, and now I've got the metallic "smell". For me, I consider it more of a sinus thing though, rather than a "taste".
I think it's probably related to new allergies after moving to our new house. I've had problems with my eyes puffing up when the cottonwood is thick. |

Thank you all for your great feedback. Pretty sure Im not pregnant :) but you never know!
After thinking a bit more and playing around with this WOE, I think the culprit actually was not enough calories. On the days I eat a little more food (SB friendly still) I do not have that taste.
As with all things, live and learn..... |
