My 16 year old son is interested in starting SB, (he THINKS he needs to lose weight) but I am leary because I know how I felt when I first started ... tired and kind of yucky for a couple of days, plus, he is in highschool and needs to be alert and do his best in school. It wouldn't hurt for him to lose a few pounds. Think this would work for him if I had him skip P1 altogether and just start with phase 2? I read somewhere that low carb is not very good or recommeded for kids.

I think if he jumps into Phase 2 it will be ok. It will definitely teach him the right and healthy way to eat...wish I learned when I was younger.

Ducky, I wouldn't let him do it for one reason. He is a kid they eat so much sugar & junk & have such efficient metabolism. If he goes on this diet he will probably loose 20 lbs in 2 weeks & we all will be so jealous!! That is the only reason I can think of why he SHOULDN'T do it. I'll bet he doesn't experience the lack of energy etc. like us old folks.

I originally started SBD to support my 15 y/o daughter since she is unhappy with her figure. She would like to lose 20 lbs. (She really just needed to tone up.) I needed to lose about 20-30 lbs. So we started together and we are currently in P-2, day 4. She has lost 7 lbs. and I have lost 10. We go to the gym and workout regularly. We never got tired or weak like I have heard other people say.
Our whole family has adopted this lifestyle now. I would encourage you to let him try it if its what HE really wants. I know the reason my daughter has done so well with lifes daily challenges is that it is what SHE wanted to do, not something we wanted her to do.
Let us know what happens. |

I think SBD is a very healthy way of eating. I don't see the problem with allowing him to do P1 also so he can kick start his weight loss and feel some sense of success with SBD early on. I really wish I had SBD when I was a teen... it would have kept me from all kinds of crazy, ineffective and unhealthy diets over the past 15+ years of my life! I also would have had a LOT LESS weight to lose back then. SBD sets the foundation for a lifetime of good eating habits... I think it would be great for him to try if he wants to!

Unless he has a very small frame, his weight sounds very healthy. By chance, is he on any medications? "Man-boobs" are a side effect of some medications. I had a male child that I worked with who even started LACTATING due to medications!

Nope, not on any meds. Hes just not toned and still is carrying around some baby fat. He barely made it through his first day on SB today....looks like I will have to modify it some for him.
