:D What should I do ? Any suggestions ? I am only in my third day and I have avoided vegetables like the plague. Does anyone have any suggestions for replacements or the necessity of vitamin supplements ? Anyone expereinced this or know someone that has. I appreciate all replies.

I wish i had better advice...but... my fiance hates them too... and i told him TOO BAD...LOL

he just chokes them down....

he likes salad..so that helps...so with a large salad at lunch and about a cup (sometimes i sneak in more) of veggies at dinner... he is going OK...

I try to flavor the veggies different... but... right now.. he will only really eat brocoli asian style... *shrug*...

neither of us will do the V8 thing in the morning...YUCK....i will post to you again after we finish up phase 2 on Sunday and let you know the results with less veggies....

OH OH...and we both take a multi vitamin with herbs (from costco) 2 times a day....

All my life I hated veggies. Before the SBD I could go weeks with out eating any veggies except for potato and corn. Now I eat tons of them. There is no substitute for veggies. No vitamins can replace them.

The best advice I can give you is "Get over it and eat them anyway".
Yep, eat something that you don't think tastes good. If it makes you gag just choke it down anyway.

Try different kinds of veggies and cook them different ways. Try them raw with dip. You will find that some make you gag less then others. When you find something that you hate a little less then everything else eat it four or five times during the next week or two. By that time you will probably find that you can eat it with less trouble.

You have to eat a new food about 15 times to change your tastes. Don't give up just because you didn't like it the first time.

If you like lettuce then you might want to start with salads. You can chop up other veggies really small or shred things like zucchini and carrots. When they are really small you really can't taste them on a salad with dressing. If you don't like lettuce then try to find one you can eat. I like Romaine and Spinach better then Iceberg.

Wait until you are hungry to eat your veggies. Make yourself a dinner with a small amount of meat and lots of veggies. Eat the meat and veggies together to start. Put a piece of chicken and a piece of broccoli on your fork and chew them up together. I have found that it helps the gagging.

Another trick is to sprinkle a little splenda on the veggies even if it doesn't sound like it would taste good sweet. Our taste buds tend to respond favorably to sweet things.

Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

Ive pretty much always loved veggies...even Brussel Sprouts!!
But for some reason i didnt care for artichoke hearts, asparagus or spinach.
By contiually trying it over and over in different ways...i love them all now.
You can change your tastes!
Just keep trying them cooked, raw, in dip, overcooked, undercooked, w/olive oil, salt and garlic, reduced fat cheese...etc...

when you say "i hate veggies", do you literally mean you hate ALL of them besides corn and potatoes?.....i have met people that didn't like most, but this is a first.....how about the less exotic, like green beans?...it beats a blank you know?...ummm, i know my kids hate it when my mother inlaw makes veggies because she tends to totally overcook them.....i cut up broccoli and red/yellow/orange peppers (they are sweet, unlike green ones) and some sweet onion, put them in a hot pan with some olive oil and goya seasoning or season all and cook until crisp/tender, and i can barely get any myself because my kids are constantly picking in the dish.... let me know if that helped any.....also, we can have cheese, so what about steaming some broccoli and tossing in some shredded cheddar???.....i hoped this helps somewhat :)

I used to hate vegetables, or thought I did. But I discovered that what I really hated was that they were almost always badly prepared - overcooked, mushy, not fresh, etc.

Do you have a friend who likes to cook them and could give you some inspiration? You could also check out a cooking video that shows the right way to cook vegetables (Julia Child put one out a few years back that made my mouth water). You might also try visiting a farmers' market just to have a look at the fresh produce - it might inspire you to see it there, being sold by the people who raised it.

In the meantime, you might want to try some of the more innocuous vegetables, like sauteed mushrooms, sauteed onions, steamed or boiled green beans, stir-fried snow peas, fresh jicama (often available already cut up at the supermarket), or red or yellow bell peppers. If necessary, buy them already prepared (e.g., at a salad bar). It is worth spending more money for delicious, fresh produce that you actually want to eat.

You might also enjoy vegetable soups, like gazpacho; seafood, chicken, or vegetable gumbo; tomato soup, mushroom soup; or cucumber soup. But you should probably either make them yourself using a SBD recipe (or modifying another recipe). Or if you buy them prepared, check the ingredients for added starch, cream, or fat. Another idea: you might want to try cooking vegetables and pureeing them into a thick soup, maybe with meat or broth. Summer squash, zucchini, onions, peeled red peppers, celery, leeks, seeded tomatoes or broccoli might work well.

You guys have hit on it exactly-- I always thought I hated vegetables, but it turns out that it was just how they were cooked that I hated.

I couldn't stand green beans when I was growing up, but my mom always served canned green beans. Now I love fresh green beans steamed in the microwave with just a little pepper on them. Or they're good sauteed, too.

Try some of the veggie recipes in the book, like the Oven-Roasted Vegetables. It's in the book under p1 and p2 under different names, but it's the same recipe that is good for all phases. It's delicious.

Try sauteeing veggies in olive oil or micro-steaming them for 1-2 minutes. I agree with those up there who said that it's all in how they're cooked!

I hated veggies too, with a passion. But I found that when I sautee them in olive oil with either chicken pieces or cut up pork tenderloin pieces, with seasonings in it, then they are ettable to me. I hope that helps.

Awesome Journey

I put veggies (a little onion, a ton of celery and red or yellow peppers) in my tuna salad or my chicken salad, and then toss that together with a salad with some dressing. I figure as long as I eat the most amount of veggies that I can stand, then I am all good. Also, veggies with dip are good, and so are veggies with a little humus too! Hope this helps!
