I work 40 hours a week, (for the next 65 weeks at most), and I take from 8 to 10 classes a week at the gym. My co-workers often ask me; do I ever relax? They do not believe my answer. My answer is that I experience my relaxation daily after my exercise. The longer or more intense the exercise the greater the relaxation I experience. When I double up, like taking BodyPump followed by BodyStep, the feeling lasts for hours.
Anybody else experience this? |

i love going home after a hard workout and being completely entitled to be a vegetable ... that feeling of being spent is soooo satisfying.
nothing beats a day of work and some gym time followed by a nice hot shower, bathrobe and slippers, puttering around the kitchen making a healthy meal, watching a little TV or reading in bed, and hitting the sack by 10:30ish. REALLY improves my quality of sleep, and i feel like a good person for the day.
it's a nice routine, really. and it also gives me a really nice excuse to ignore the responsibilities i should do during the week and postpone them til the weekend. ;) |

| I don't get that feeling after I exercise, no matter how hard or how long I go. I relax when working in my garden/yard. I love to work in my yard. I can hardly think of anything more pleasant. I have one spot in my garden with some lithodora and lavender, both of which are in bloom right now. My favorite thing is to sit on a rock in this flower bed and watch the bees working. :D They are so cute. I feel totally relaxed when I do this. I could sit there for hours. But I don't. :( |

If I have had a lighter workout I am energized and just want to keep moving but after a hard day at work or a tough workout I relax and debrief by coming online and "chatting" with all my SB and TE (a cycling forum for women only) friends. Or doing crossword or sudoku puzzles. Or going to bed and reading a book or magazine mmmmm I think I will do this shortly :D
Last night was spent watching Ironman videos on Youtube - I LOVE the internet
Oldgreybob - I just think you have become a junkie and adreneline is your drug of choice  Is this interfering w/ your relationships? are you discovering you are losing interest in all things you used to enjoy? do you think about, anticipate, and plan how you are going to get your daily fix in? If so call 1-800-buf-enuf
Seriously though I'm always fascinated by people who workout just for the pure pleasure of working out. My DBF is one of those people. I on the other hand only do it to meet a goal. (competitive swimming, bike touring, this year a sprint triathlon.) Someday hopefully it will transfer to the level of exercising for the sake of exercising. |

Sometimes, before I get out of bed, right after I wake up, I do some very slow, gentle, deep breathing.
Just a minute or two.
And slow the breathing.
And think calming thoughts.
And hold the button on my heart rate monitor watch to check my resting heart rate (in part to see if I'm over training and need to adjust schedule accordingly).
This morning, my resting heart rate was 44 bpm.
And then this morning, I reset the alarm and decided to take the day off and sleep another hour (yet knowing in sufficient confidence as I rolled over, I'd get the like-clockwork six-days-a-week in this week).
And back to sleep for another hour.
That's relaxing. |

I am taking interest in things I use to take for granted. If my darling dog could type, she would tell you! Darling dog and I are now taking evening walks where she is trying to be a good dog and I am trying to be both dominate and relaxed - a tough mix. I just find it hard to believe that the more I workout, the more energy I have to other things. Too bad I had to 60 years old to discover it.
P.S. Endorphins and not adreneline is my drug of choice. |
