Great job, Maltby_gardner! You WILL get a lot of benefits from breaking your cardio into two sessions. Sounds like you had an awesome beachy day yesterday! :D
So far today is going well...I've moved into phase 2. Really I only added fruit. Got up and out the the gym by 6am...30 minutes on the elliptical machine, upper body weights, then 15 minutes on the treadmill. Back home in time for dh to go to work.
Have a great day team! |

Good job, MB. I really admire anyone who can work up the motivation to get out of the house and to a gym to exercise.
Realizing that that's not me, my DH has provided me with all the equipment I need at home! |

Hey Gang!
Everything going according to plan thus far.
Getting up early to work out before work. Getting my water in.
I'm jotting down everything- need to take the time to do a simple spreadsheet.
Have a great evening everyone  |

I just got back from a 2.5 hour bike ride...I'm certain that counts towards a 90 minute workout bonus points, seeing as my last one didn't?
And I've gotten all my water in today! :D
Off to cook a healthy dinner now... |

You bet you get bonus points for a 2.5 hour bike ride!!! Way to get points for the team!
I've already done my elliptical and upper body strength training and am waiting on my husband to get home for our hike. And I just heard him come home--yeah!
I can feel I'm really in sync with everything. It's been easy eating SB and drinking my water. I don't even desire to be "bad."
I have a turkey breast roasting in the oven for dinner, and we'll have rice and roasted asparagus. Now I'm off to go hiking while that's cooking.
Bonus points--go team!
It'll be interesting to see where we fall teamwise after the first week.
Keep up the good work everyone and have a nice evening! |

Hey Team!
It sounds like today went well for us!
I currently am dealing with an incrediby stressful school-related situation right now, but somehow I'm managing to keep things together.
I had planned to do my hilly run this morning, but was simply in no mood to get out of bed. So I packed up a bag of gym clothes and decided I'd do it AFTER work, before my yoga class.
So after work I headed over to the gym to change and then headed outside to run - and boy, it felt great. :) The roads around the gym aren't as satisfyingly hilly as the ones near my house, however, so I'll have to try harder to get up early on hill-run days.
After doing my run I realized it had only taken me about 20 minutes (since it was focused on the challenge of the hills and not on any particular distance or time). So to make sure I wasn't slacking on the 30-min cardio requirement for this Challenge, I decided to hop on the elliptical while my heartrate was still up. It was great! I did 16 minutes, at quite a fast pace, and it felt wonderful. I really would like to do the full 28-minute elliptical routine I used to do sometime again, with my heartrate monitor, because I could tell I am in MUCH better shape now than when I used to use it! Hooray for all the running I've been doing!!
And then I headed over to the yoga studio, only to find the class was cancelled since the instructor wasn't feeling well. So darn. Fortunately that doesn't throw off any of my goals or anything for the week.
So tonight I just have to do my yoga sun salutations homework and crunches/pushups at some point before I go to sleep, and I'm all set! Also, I ate wonderfully Beachy today, so hooray for that. :) I should update my journal at some point, it's been a while. I could actually use some more veggies for the day, I believe, so I'm going to go fix myself a veggie snack... |

| I had a great workout today. Another C25K Week 1 workout. My feet, legs, glutes, etc. have definitely adapted to the faster pace; my heart and lungs need to catch up. I am racking up cardio points, everybody! By breaking my cardio into two session, I can get 90 minutes a day! Woo Hoo! I've got my Pump It! challenge covered, it looks like I'll make my personal goals...I am loving it right now! |

I feel so good today, in addition to my bike ride I did 30 more minutes of cardio, and 15 minutes of weight training! :)
Question: does moving up one week in C25k count towards the bonues points for pushing yourself? (I went from running 60 sec, walking 90 sec to running 90 sec, walking 2 min) |

DarkChocolate wrote: Oh, and A-Rod, you mentioned something I'd been wondering about (which may have been addressed in these threads I haven't yet caught up on, sorry!) - is "pushing it" supposed to be when you do more than planned, or can it also be when you plan to do something particularly challenging? It sounds like it could be either... and it probably is rather case-specific. Thanks!
i think it's up to you ... if i increase my speed or distance or duration, i count that as pushin' it! whatever is a stretch from your NORMAL workouts counts as pushing yourself, planned or not ... you kinda have to be your own judge.
EverLore, i think the increases in the C25K count as pushing yourself!
maltby, you get 2 point bonuses for pushing it [increasing weight] ... not 5 ... sorry! ;)
do you all have a team name yet? didn't see any consensus ... |

Hey Team!
I was just noticing that the other team threads have been updated with Team Names.... What are we going to be? I agree with maltby that Shapeshifters sounds cool...
I just spent the last couple hours catching up on the Couch-to-5K thread, and am excited to notice than in addition to maltby_gardner (*enthusiastic wave Hello!*), EverLore is also on this team! Congrats on starting Cto5K, you'll love it!!!
Last night I did accomplish my yoga practice and pushups/crunches before bed. Whew! Also, I noticed the coolest thing - after having done daily crunches for a couple weeks, I was able to feel real ab muscles developing, which was really cool. Well last night I discovered that if I feel the muscles while holding a crunch position, my ab muscles feel REALLY hard! Oh man, it was mind-blowing. Honestly, when I started doing crunches, I felt like they were something I SHOULD be doing, but I had no real expectations they they would ACTUALLY "do" anything noticeable! But sure enough, there are abdominal muscles developing which I certainly know weren't noticeable before! The muscles are still covered with a layer of "squish" :) but this seems to be diminishing as well. So it's exciting.
Today my after-work plan involves weight machines at the gym and a 3-mile run. I hope it won't be too warm out, we'll have to see. This was all supposed to happen BEFORE work, but my alarm didn't go off this morning. Uugh.
I did, however, get all my school stuff straightened out this morning, so that's an immense relief. I'll be starting an evening course later this month, and am really looking forward to it! By then I'll have to really get into a morning exercise routine, as I'll have FAR less time at night! |
