Hey team! Anybody out there? You must all be at the gym! Well, I posted my menu and workout schedule for the week on my fridge, so weekly goal number one is finished! Thought I was off to a good start, so I did my 5-mile run on the treadmill at the gym this morning at 6am...so weekly goal number 3 is finished! I wanted to get it over with so it wasn't hanging over my head all week. I'm doing phase 1 this week so my energy level is low...really low. I'm watching my friend's two kids today, so along with my 3...well, let's just say its a good thing all my food and stuff was planned out yesterday (I'm a stress eater!) But I'm doing great with phase 1 so far...craving milk I guess because of the lactose...good stuff! How is everyone else doing? I know that many of you are probably at work, so maybe we'll hear from you later.
musicmom, for my circuit I do 20 crunches, 10 squats, 10 walking lunges (hands on hips, lunge with right foot till left knee almost touches the floor, then lunge with left foot...travel forward around the house making the children laugh at how ridiculous it looks!), then 10 calf raises on each leg. You don't rest between exercises so it raises your heartrate at the same time that you get in a strength workout. I repeat this circuit 3 to 5 times, depending on my energy level! I think I remember seeing that you are a homeschool mom, too! Do you take the summer off? We're still working on finishing first grade!
Have a great day everybody! |

Argh...here I am!
I lost internet for several days (grumble) but I'm here now, I'll be back in a minute with my goals etc.
Ok, my goals for this week are:
1. Make a good healthy dinner 5/7 days this week
2. Drink my water!
3. Get out on my bike (in addition to required cardio) |

Welcome Malby_gardner! Are you ready? For those of you who have already posted your goals--wonderful!!! We still need goals from a few people. Let's get them posted!
I finished my first cardio as soon as I got home from work. I really wasn't too tired even though I got up at 2:45 this morning--had to work an hour earlier today. I think eating better and lighter this whole last week has given me more energy. When I got home, I just went straight for the closet, changed, and hit the elliptical. I have slacked off on exercising for so long that 30 minutes was tough. How embarrassing!! Later on this afternoon, I hope to get a hike in on the ridge. Bonus points!!!! As soon as I finish this I'm going to do an upper body session with weights. It feels good to be actually doing something to get back in shape instead of just talking about it.
Better go get that weight session in now. I have some gardening to do before my husband gets home and we take our hike. I love having beautiful gardens but it's a lot of work keeping up with the deadheading and trimming. I love being outside though so I guess it's not so bad!
I'll try to check in later and see how you all are doing. So far, so good!
MB, I think I'm going to try your circuit training routine this week. Sounds good.
Audrey--get one of those little rebounders (looks like a tiny trampoline) and jog on it. I wish I hadn't given mine away--I'd use it now. You can do this!
WE'RE OFF AND RUNNING!!!!

I almost forgot to remind everyone to weigh themselves today and write it down. I also like Justright's idea of taking your measurements. With all this exercise we're going to be doing--it may show up a lot more on the tape measure than the scales!
Okay, now I'm really going to go and do my weights--bye. |

Here I am! Since I joined at the last minute, I don't have my goals ready yet, I will definitely post them tomorrow. Looking at everyone else's goals gave me a ton of good ideas, now I have to choose 3!
I like the name Shapeshifters; has a Sci-fi ring to it.
Okay, here are my goals for week 1:
1. Try a one new gluten-free grain.
2. Stretching, 5 days
3. Research and acquire yoga DVD
Note: Edited goals to remove overlap. |

A-Rod, thanks for asking about Mongolia. My husband and I feel called to full-time Christian missionary service...and Mongolia has really been on our hearts. There are other opportunities, but the draw to Mongolia doesn't leave us. Have you been there? May I ask what nonprofit you work for...it's not JCS, is it? I'm praying that we get a chance to visit soon.
As far as my workout goes...no, I'm not training for anything in particular. I've participated in a few 5K's (notice I didn't say I raced, I'm super-slow!) Right now I'm just trying to get down to business getting in shape...as I get nearer my goal weight it really takes a lot to shake the lbs! I'm hoping to lose some more inches off my waist even if I don't lose any more weight. Plus I'd like to actually be able to see muscle. |

Wow, I was hoping more people would have checked in and shared how their first day went. Probably too busy working out to get on the computer, right?
Well, I did my hike with my husband even though he got home later than expected and didn't really want to. Afterwards he said he was glad he did. We ended up eating dinner kind of late for us but it was worth getting in the extra workout. I thought after all that exercise and getting up for work so early (2:45), I would be exhausted by now (8PM) but I actually feel pretty good and aren't really tired at all. I guess exercising IS invigorating!
I ate cleanly SB today and drank my water with no problem. I did one workout on the elliptical, upper body weight workout, and one workout hiking on the ridge. I already have my lunch and breakfast made for tomorrow and dinner planned and prepped. Life is good!!! I hope I can keep up this pace--it does take a lot of time but it is time well spent! |

I don't know, Captain, if the east coasters haven't posted by now, I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for them.
I had a good, solid SB day today. Ate on plan (I almost always do, so nothing big there), got in 60 minutes of cardio and a 45 minute weight session, so I'm feeling good! Also found some quinoa at the grocery store and tried that, so one of my personal goals is in the can. I be feeling good tonight. (A marked improvement from this morning!) |

Good first day for me!
I did my cardio (30 mins - Week One Workout 3 of C25k) and I ended up doing a two hour workout with a cousin of mine! (Woohoo bonus points.)
I'm doing good on my weekly goals, as I cooked a new and healthy dinner - in my garage - even at 93 degrees - yuck. |

Cooking in your garage? Why?
I did alright today, too. Got in my 8 glasses of h2o (btw, does anyone know offhand how many cups 64oz is? I should double check.)
I did my 100% strength training exercises from sparkpeople tonight, so that goal is accomplished for the week as well as one of my strength sessions. Also made my menu tonight, so goal #2 is done, too. Now I just have to stay away from chocolate the rest of the week.
Welcome to the new posters! Looking forward to the inspiration and encouragement here. I tell ya, I wouldn't have done these exercises (it's 10:45 PM and I just finished cleaning up all the flour my 2yo son got into while I was on the phone  ) except that I don't want to let the team down. This is great motivation for me!
Mongolia -- sounds like great plans you and dh have. I pray all your efforts will be blessed. Thanks for the tip on the workout -- that's something I can do at home and I'll try it one of these days. I love the idea of combining the strength and cardio. Even if I do a shorter walk I could come home and finish up with a couple circuits of your plan.
Rommel -- do you guys live in a rural area? Your hike sounded lovely!
Maltby - how did you fix your quinoa? What did you think of it? I had it for the first time recently and cooked it with onion and lots of garlic then stirred in some fresh chopped parsley and squeezed half a lemon over it at the end. It was yum!
I'm away from home all day tomorrow for our last field trip of the year (we go every Tues.) and may not get a chance to exercise, but I'll make up for it Wed.! |

OK. Just did the weigh-n-measure.
179.5 (one month into SBD and 10 lbs down!)
bust: 41
waist: 38
hips: 43
All I can say is, thank God I've at least got a little smidgen of proportion there - - at least the waist is smaller than the other two! Won't I be glad to see ALLLLLL those numbers come down!! |

I set the alarm for 3:45 am instead of 4 so I can get in some wk/out time this morning before work.
Keep up the great work everybody! |

Hi to all of you!
I am so sorry but I have to quit this challenge. Last night 2 minutes after my cardio class started I felt sharp pain... long story short I have torn calf muscle and my husband, who is physician, expects 4-6weeks recovery and physical therapy. Please let people on a waiting list know.
Good luck to all of you, I'll follow your progress from the sidelines.[/b] |
