i think there is something wrong with my scale, or maybe all/most digital scales are suppose to be like this? (it is not "cheap", nor is it expensive, an average $50-$80 digi-scale)
anyways, i stepped on, i get a reading. then i decided to remove some clothes, and i get a lower reading (of course). then i put them (the clothes) back on and i got the same lower reading when i took them off, as if i still had them (clothes) off. then just to test my scale, i filled a cup with water (to add weight) and stepped back on (with the clothes and everything), now i got a much higher reading (more than the first time, with clothes on). then i stepped back on again without the cup of water and with the clothes on. and the scale read the same thing as if i still had the cup of water in my hand.
what?
(so i thought maybe the scale needed some "relax" time to readjust itself, i waited about 10 mins before i stepped back on, same reading (as the time i had the cup of water with me)
are all/most digi-scales like this? only responding to significant weight changes if you're going to use & re-use it in a short period of time? if so, how long do i need to wait to use it again? yes yes i know it's not smart to weight myself every 10 minutes, i just want to find out.
hope my post wasn't too confusing. |

I have a $40 tanita digital scale and I don't know that I have those experiences. I usually just take the first reading in the AM and don't get back on it until the next morning though. Just a daily data point.
I think the times I might have gotten off and back on, it stays pretty close or exact to the first time though. |

with a digital scale 0.2 pound variation and % body fat

but not the weight |

| The body fat % is dependent on a variety of factors, mostly your hydration levels. It is at best, a very rough indicator of actual body fat % and will likely vary a lot more than your weight anyway. |

my first reading is NEVER right. after that i am usually the same on the scale.
i think digital scales have issues.
i much prefer the old fashioned slider at the gym. |

next 2 readings 237.6
next reading 235.8

I go with the high reading today because it was the most frequent.

| I, too, have wondered about digital scales! I usually weigh 6 times a day (in a row) in 2 different spots. I take whatever number appears most, although on Monday's weight really counts. |

| wow thats crazy. I bought a digital scale a few weeks ago when I had decided I was going to start this diet. I threw it out a few days later. It just gave me wierd readings and It was soo sensitive, if you didn't step on it just right it woudlnt' work at all. I got frustrated with it and woudlve returned but my dd managed to break it. So for now Ill just stick with weighing myself at the gym |
