Hi everyone, I just ran across an add for alli in my local paper. First time I've heard of it. I'm impressed with their website and overall approach. Since the medication is FDA approved that means it has at least gone through research. I've never taken diet pills before but this one looks like it might be worth researching a bit. I've got over 50lbs to lose and have been in P2 for 3 weeks now. As they say in their adds, this is not for quick weight loss. It is to support what we are already doing here in SBD.
Is anyone planning on using it? Why or why not? General comments? |

Well, after looking a little more I did find an older thread here on Xenical, which is the same drug but 2x dosage. It looks like it caused a lot of problems and bathroom issues for people who used it. That makes me quite skeptical.
This newer version, called alli, comes with a whole support system, which is an improvement. But of course they downplay the pretty nasty side effects calling them "treatment effects". Their take on it is that if you are eating the proper amount of fat (15g per meal) then you will not have the side effects. But if you eat more fat than that you probably will. So they theorize that this can help people limit their fat intake -- to avoid the nasty "treatment effect" of having your body eliminate the extra fat.
Well, it's all packaged very nicely. And the fact that they are really supporting a low-fat and lower-calorie WOE still does impress me. 15g fat per meal is not excessive. I might hang around and let some other people be guinea pigs first :D I am really happy with SBD and believe in the values and principles here. I wouldn't change that and am not looking for a quick fix. But on the other hand, if this is a product that can help support what I'm already doing..... I don't know..... I'm going to keep watching what happens with this product. |

| I read up a bit on Alli and the one thing that is nice that the company is really stressing that it is not a magic pill and that it is only going to be an aid and that a proper diet has to be maintained in order for it to work. However, given the side effects and that they suggest limiting fat intake to 15 grams/meal, I'm not sure that it would pair up too well with the SBD. I don't count how much fat I eat (and frankly, I don't want to - that's one of the nice things about this WOE) but I imagine that some of my meals exceed the 15 gram mark. And last thing I need to worry about is having to make a mad rush to the bathroom while in the middle of a meeting with a client. Ugh! |

My friend sent me this link... Seems the "side effect" could be pretty nasty...

| Snickerbutt!!! OMG that article was HILARIOUS!!!! LOL!!! It's so funny, especially considering that just yesterday my Mom offered to pay for diet pills in order to "help me get a quick start"... I sent her the article to read, maybe she'll start to see why I am adament (sp?) about not taking diet pills, no matter WHAT they come out with!! That gave me a really good laugh, and helped reinforce to me how great it is to be on the beach.. Thank you so much!! |

| I tried the Xenical a few years ago and it was awful. The side effects were so nasty that I can't imagine how one could take the meds without wearing a diaper at all times. I would much rather lose weight through SB and exercising. |

TMI but, I have digestive probs (gas and the like) as it is; Why in the he** would I take a pill that's gonna make it worse?
The Chicago Tribune just ran an article warning people of the nastiness of this. I hope they all listen.
