Levothyroxine (Synthroid) and Soy Products

I have been taking Levothyroxine (Synthroid) for almost 9 years. But it is only after the weight loss, ~60 pounds thanks to SBD, and subsequent dosage reduction that I and my Physician became concerned about drug and food interactions with Levothyroxine. I have been following the advice that states no food within an hour of taking Levothyroxine and no vitamins, mineral supplements, or fiber supplements for at least 4 hours. I was given a list of foods to avoid within 4 hours of taking Levothyroxine. What has really surprised me is finding soy products on the list of foods not to have within 4 hours of taking Levothyroxine. Soy products are used in so many breakfast items such as breakfast bars, certain ‘healthful’ breakfast cereals, and meal replacement bars.

 Now I have one more thing to read the labels for!

I knew that about the soy. The above is an interesting and very informative site...if you are not familiar with it, you might want to check it out.
