| Hello everyone, My name is Leah and I am currently 30 lbs over weight. Currently I'm wearing a size 12, but my goal is to wear a size 7/8, by the summer. I started the SBD Monday and it wasn't as bad as I thought; however today is my second day and I noticed, I need a chocolate fix. Do anyone have any suggestions for a snack during the day? I know this is a bit early to start going through withdrawals, I think I need some help. |

[Hello
I am now on my second week and usually I am a chocoholic.
But I do stuff my face with all the allowed things starting at breakfast.
Whenever I feel the slightest hunger, I eat a little bit of cheese.
I am German, and over here we do not have so many low fat things to eat
and certainly no low cab things YET....
Keep it up and good luck  |

| You can get some good sugar-free chocolate flavored hard candies that will last quite a while. You could also try mixing together cocoa and sweetener and adding it to foods/drinks that are on your menu (such as nonfat ricotta cheese). Chocolate was hard for me in P1 too, but it's easier in P2 because there are more foods available. |

| My husband and I used the heated cocoa ricotta desserts to get our evening chocolate fix. We also eat a free fudgesicle after lunch. You can make it through Phase 1 if you do this. |

| I couldn't have made it through P1 without my sugar-free fudgesicles. Or should I say, "no-sugar-added" fudgesicles. Don't have 'em? Get 'em! |

Hi Leah,
I'm Jamie. I just wanted to tell you that I just got thru P1 and my cravings are a lot less! I'm a major sweets person with usually no willpower, but I think eating hardly any sugar (or at least the "bad" carbs) really helped! I thought I would share - hopefully it helps. Just keep filling yourself w/the good foods, and you'll get thru! |

| I would recommend trying to make it through P1 before adding sugar free chocolate back in. What I discovered was that after the initial period had passed, my cravings for chocolate and sweets were significantly decreased. That said, I'll admit that I indulge in a small amount of sugar free chocolate 1-2 times per week. Today I had two squares of sugar free dark chocolate in the afternoon as my snack. I really like the Carb Safe brand chocolates and I think their mousse pillow bars are absolutely divine! I buy mine at Trader Joes. The packaging lists the following email address: info@gol-d-lite.com ... I suppose you could ask where to buy it in your area. |

| Put your nuts of choice onto a small plate. Drink a lot of water between nuts and your cravings should go away. Like Flea, I live in Germany and have just given up on sweets because we don't have your choices over here. I do eat two rolaids just before bed if I crave anything sweet. |

| I started P1 at the wrong "time of the month" so my chocolate cravings were killing me. To remedy, I have a small glass of chocolate milk made with cocoa powder and a bit of Splenda. |

SoulLips--
Does the carb safe candy that you get at Trader Joe's have a lot of sugar alcohols in it? Do they upset your stomach at all?
In response to chocolate cravings there are some supplements out there that may help. I was at a low-carb vitamin and food store and I explained to the clerk that since doing the SBD I have found that I sometimes crave sweets more than I ever have. She told me to take two things, one of which I know is sort of controversial at the moment
1. gymnema sylvestre- This is an herb that has been used in India for like two hundred years or something and is a professed "sugar blocker". The herb keeps your body from craving sweets and if you open it up and put the powder on your tongue, not only will you really not want sweets but you will not be able to taste sweetness for two hours. (I have not done this but this is what I read). After having taken this now every morning for about four weeks I must admit that my cravings for all sweets is practically non-existant
I was very hesistant to add supplements to my diet but I asked a nutrition lady at my trusted health food store Clark's and she said that it was safe and effective. This herb combined with adhering to the Phase 1 plan will definitely curb your cravings for chocolate. Hang in there!
2. I almost forgot the second supplement- chromium picolinate
This is used in a lot of weight loss supplements but I take it mostly to avoid low blood sugars which I think I am prone to because my mother is hypoglycemic. What this does is keep your blood sugar levels stable, neither too high nor too low. This in turn keeps your body from craving quick fixes which are usually simple (bad) carbs and sugars.
Apparently there are some notions that chromium is carcinogenic but none have been proven. So far I have felt great taking both pills and I have noticed positive results.
Does anyone else take any kind of supplements? |

| L8krGrl, yes, the Carb Safe chocolates are sweetened with sugar alcohols (maltitol). I haven't had problems with stomach upset or other gastric distress. However, I make a point of not eating much of the candy per day. It is relatively high in calories and definitely high in fat, so it's something I eat in moderation only. |

What about the Russel Stover Carb Chocolates ? Are they ok for phase 1 ? Do they have the Sugar Alcohols in them too ?
Has anyone tried these. I tried the pecan delights and they are yummy. I only had one, and then realized they are probably not for Phase 1.
Thanks |
