I'm picking this up from the Runner's Thread; more photos from the Black Hills. If you've never been there, go! Now!
It looks as though my photos from Harney Peak were takin on my SLR camera (and I never scanned them in  ) |

Here are some pics I took of the Black Forest too!
Cathedral Spires taken on the hike up Mt. Harney
The Black Forest taken on the hike up Mt. Harney
Another one of the Black Forest taken on the hike up Mt. Harney
A wildflower along side the trail
The backside of Mt. Rushmore (distant flat, broad peak) taken on the hike up Mt. Harney
I had a family reunion in the Black Forest last summer around the US Independence Day holiday. I hiked Mt. Harney with two of my kids (ages 9 and 11 at the time), my cousin, and his son (age 9 at the time).
Gorgeous scenery. |

An abandoned mine on the hike up Mt. Sherman
A couple summers ago, I took this one while hiking with my oldest up Mt. Sherman. Mt. Sherman is one of Colorado's 54 14,000 ft. peaks. This mine is at about 13,000 ft., clearly above the tree line. |

Grays and Torreys Peaks taken on the trail up Mt. Quandry
Columbine on the Mt. Quandry Trail
Mt. Quandary is another Colorado 14er. I hiked it last summer with my oldest son. I took both of these pics on the hike. The first pic is of the "twin peaks" of Grays and Torreys which I also hiked last summer. |

Seven Falls from the Mt. Cutler Trail
Seven Falls is a Colorado Springs tourist attraction (or maybe just trap). Nice bus parking and that.
The real view is from here, on the trail up Mt. Cutler. Cutler is pretty short and only a 20 minute driven from downtown. I've hiked Cutler a couple times with the younger kids as well as run it a couple times. |

PapaBanucci & DD on the Summit of Mt. Democrat
Mt. Democrat is another Colorado 14,000 ft. peak. This was the very first Colorado 14er I summited and was only now two summers ago. (I've now summited seven and plan on doing another four or so this summer.)
I had only been "in shape" less than a year. It was a trek up for both me and my daughter. She cried at the false summit hoping it would be the top.
My daughter was 8 at the time. "Polo Bear" has been up three Colorado 14ers with my daughter. |

Two of the Banucci Kids Pointing out "Butt Crack Rock" on the Hike up Pikes Peak
Papa, Mamma, and the Older Two Banuccis (and Polo Bear) on the Pikes Peak Summit
We hiked Pikes Peak for my birthday last summer. Two and a half day trek doing it with MommaBanucci and the older two kids. |

And finally the view from my neighborhood.
At least on the one perfect day of the year with an incredible fog layer and with a bit of cropping out of the neighbor's houses to just get the mountain.
All of these posts are making me want to hike this summer! |

| It's so weird that your 14,000+ ft. peaks are bare. Mt. Rainier is covered in snow and ice all the time. How far do you actually have to climb to get to the top. I mean, what is the altitude of the base of those peaks? |

PB, your kids are almost as cute as mine! :) Looks like they have Dad's face and Mom's coloring.
I love the pic of the columbine, too. Beautiful! |

| Doc, I'm always telling people their kids are almost cute enough to be mine. We must think alike. I love columbine; they are one of my favorite flowers but they don't grow wild here. |

A rather controversial topic.
The general "rule" Colorado hikers go by is that you must ascend 3,000 vertical ft. to consider it a climb of a 14er.
Many of the valleys are around 9,000 ft. Quite high.
So often folks will drive up to a trailhead around 11,000 ft. or so and start the hike from there.
When we did Pikes Peak last summer, it is a very different matter. We started at 6,500 ft. above sea level and ascent more than a vertical mile. |

Me too! The trail up Cutler is completely runnable. There is one spot where you have to put your hands down on the rocks, but otherwise it is beautiful trail. It is from the one rocky spot that I took the picture of Seven Falls. And there is a nice drop off there too.

German bones. Irish skin. (So how did I get the Banucci Italian name...)

| So you have a mysterious Italian surname...my 7/8 Hispanic husband has an Irish surname name. Did you know that lots of Irish people emigrated to Mexico during the Potato Famine? And we thought they all came to the US! |
