I have been doing research on different diet plans, and so far, I really like the concepts of SBD; as well as the support this forum offers!
My husband was recently told by his doctor that he needs to be more conscious of how he's eating... at risk for heart disease and diabetes. However, he also has Crohn's disease, and it's been difficult to find a plan that won't cause a flare-up.
I'm a little concerned about how he will deal with Phase 1. I've read that even people with "healthy" colons have gastrointestinal distress at first, and I'm afraid that could trigger an attack of worse proportions.
Are there any Crohn's sufferers out there that have been successful on SBD?
Thanks! |

| I also have Crohn's. I started SB in May 2005 and by Dec 2005 I lost not only 62 lbs but no more intestional problems. Even though there is no medical literature to back this up...my mother had Crohn's for years...and diet is the key. Avoid processed foods...preservatives, etc. I ate tons of salad, vegetables...broccoli, etc and had no problems. BUT when you go off or cheat you will have a big bathroom experience. Crohn's reacts well to healthy eating. Your husband just needs to be careful. For instance, I don't know where you live but my mother could not eat Entenmann's brand cakes...even their pound cake...has something in it that would trigger an attack. The gastro problems with SB ususally occur in the early stage because the body is cleansing itself. When I stopped following SB and went back to my old eating habits...bagels..pizza...donuts...junk...I gained 30 lbs and lived on Imodium...Back on the Beach for 3 weeks and guess what? 11.5 lbs. gone and no more Imodium. Good luck |

Thank you SO much! Knowing that someone else with Crohn's has had success will make it much easier to go into this with confidence.
He loves salad, but it has always seemed to be a trigger for him. However, I do believe that it is a matter of getting your body used to the good stuff - "cleansing" of sorts. Because we have been eating better in general lately, and now a burger does what salad used to do. |
