Hot Flashes?

I started SBD on Sunday May 2nd, as of this morning I was down 5 lbs which was hard to believe. Overall I'm feeling fine, sometimes my head is a little "whoozy". I've been working out (walking 5 miles or doing the stairclimber).

I've noticed starting yesterday that I'm getting some major hot flashes. The weather has warmed up here in Colorado but I don't think that's it :-)

Has anyone else had this problem?

Hey Breck,

I'm not sure what causes them, but I have a "hot flash" now and then also. I guess it my be perimenopause . . . but it's hard to tell. It's also a little fishy that it started about the time we started the diet!

Hope all is well for you today!

I was so happy to 1) find this website/message board and 2) to find the post about hot flashes. I've been on the diet for almost 4 days and the hot flashes started day1. I'm relieved to know others have experienced this, but still perplexed as to why it's happening. Maybe it's some sort of perimenopause thing, but aren't I too young for that (39)?

Someone at work suggested it could be my body just revving up the metabolism "furnace." I guess that would be great.

Thanks again for starting this thread.

I had several "flashes" on ph.1, and remember reading several posts about this (in May). They went away once I reintroduced carbs. I think it's a reaction to a change in body chemistry. Many women also mentioned a change in their menstrual cycle. These changes eventually even out.

Hi everyone,

I have studied a lot about menopause and other problems I have....hypothyroid, high eye pressures...anyway...I have many books on weight loss nutrition etc.....and one of my books says that to avoid hotflashes avoid meat and dairy to mention a few. Also caffine and sugar set me off. I turn bright red like a stop sign. So I too have been having more or should I say returning hotflashes since I have been doing this diet. (The extra protein and dairy) I haven't noticed a big weight loss, but I do feel lighter.

Good luck to everyone in their goals.
:D < Hotflash

Just checking in. You are right wienerwrld about the changes in cycle. I got my monthly one week early. Of course, this is okay since I'm going to the beach next week. I'm still having the hot flashes all day long. I'm scheduled to go to P2 on Monday, so we'll see if that helps.

I read in another forum about women's cylces that the hot flashes and the changes in cyles are caused by releasing the estrogen in the fat. Well, at least it keeps me reaching for my water all day!

This happened to me last night...I had to turn the AC back on, and still kept kicking the covers off. I'm on Day 4. It seems more than a coincidence if other women experience it also.
