I still use the prong collar with our Golden Girl. DH doesn't need to. We have also done extensive training, and she's well behaved when walking now..most of the time. Her favorite neighbor dog can change that in a flash if she sees him down the block when we walk 'tho. She takes off like a bat out of hades. DH has the strength to curb her regardless, and it happens rarely now so he doesn't use the prong collar. I on the other hand am not a large person, and she weighs 92 lbs and i don't want to lose her, so i do. We never had any trouble with the prong collar.

A friend of my sister's trains police dogs in our neighboring county, and he suggested the prong collar for my German shepherd. Because they have so much fur around their necks, a regular "choke" collar is pretty useless. He worked with me so I learned where to position the collar, and how to train the dog so that we didn't hurt him, and he walks great on the leash now. I have actually had a couple of people driving past stop and say they wished their dog walked like that on a leash! Only problem is, if he sees me pick up the collar, he thinks we are going walking!

And Nessa, I bought the caps for the prongs... I don't know that HE can tell a difference, but it makes me feel a little better... :)

THANKS SOOOO MUCH YOU GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!! I went out this morning and purchased the Gentle Leader (from Menard's for only $9.99, as opposed to *17.99 in The Pet Pantry. THANKS LAURA!:D ) and it worked like a charm. I can't believe the transformation! My neighbor (who affectionately called my pooch "Chokey" because of the noises he would make) was out watering his lawn did double take, and then gave me the thumbs up sign.

Dollar's first reaction to the leash were actually not bad at all. I made sure to give him some frozen bananas (his favorite treats) while I was fitting it. The whole ordeal of getting the perfect fit only took about 4 or 5 minutes. He did try to scrub it off, but with more bananas he forgot it was even on.

Our walk was absolutely delightful! He himself actually learned not to pull. I didn't have to tug on the leash. He walks ahead of me a little bit and when he would began to pull even the slightest bit, he would slow down on his own. But the real test came when we saw a rabbit. He tried to break out after the first one, but only succeeded in tumbling over. Two times of that must've been enough because on the third rabbit and later a little girl, he calmly kept walking. I am still in shock.

Again, thank you guys so much for all your help!
