I have to ask you guys...
Today i've made my longest run/walk ever 3.22 miles in 42 min! (I am so proud!) BUT the problem is... my feet started to go numb a little before half of my route. I stopped halfway there, sit on a rock and took off my shoes to move them a little, it helped a little but I still got that numbness feeling till I got home. I tought my shoes were too tight so I've put them looser and now I got a blister...Ugh! And shoes seems to be the right size (I got room to move my foot and toes in them). Is it a poor blood circulation? What can I do? I remember is had happened to me on the elliptical at the gym 2 years ago and also rollerblading. I don't want to give up running because I can't do more than 2 miles without numbness in my foot

Congratulations on the run, Maryone!

What type of socks do you wear? I can only wear the thinnest cool max socks. Those deluxe double layer cushioned socks make my feet go numb.

I also tie my shoes loser at the toe and snugly (not tight!) at the ankle to help circulation but decrease rubbing.

It takes a bit of fiddling and figuring to get it right.

I'm having this problem with cycling. It's the balls of my feet and my toes that tingle and go numb. Problem is they hurt too. It's a hot pins & needles hurt. Right now I'm just working through it hoping they'll get better. I did some looking and there is a condition called Morton's Neuroma and I'm really hoping that's not it. I'll give the coolmax socks a try. Where do you get them?

I have this problem on the elliptical.... wondering if maybe I'm wearing the wrong type of shoe, although I've been wearing crosstrainers, which I would think would be ok. When I'm on the treadmill, my feet feel fine. I can't do anymore than 30-35 minutes on the elliptical for this reason though. :(

The numbness and tingling in the toes and feet is a very common problem with the stair machines, elliptical trainers, etc. It is basically a lack of circulation from the constant pressure on the feet and more often than not has nothing to do with your shoes.

It's like when your arms falls asleep if you lean on it for too long? The same thing is happening in your feet and toes. (I've also had this happen to me on the elliptical.)

There are a couple things you can do that should help.

1. Take a quick break every 10 minutes or so just to shake out your feet and get circulation going again. Step off the machine to do this then jump right back on.

2. Lift your feet off the pedals every now and then while you are using the machine. A few steps off the pedals every few minutes should do the trick. To do this, when you are pushing down with the right foot, lift the left foot off and wiggle your foot around and vice versa.

Mine do this from time to time when I run - discovered I was tying my sneakers too tight. Loosened them up a bit and problem solved!

Well, since your mom's not here to say it, I'll just fill in for her...there might be something wrong with you, but it probably doesn't have anything to do with your feet.

Thanks everyone! Glad i'm not the only one in this situation! Guess i'll have to find something to make it work! Great tips in there! I would loved a solution that doesn't involve stopping the activity you're in... I haven't try yet but I figure that it's pretty hard to wiggle your toes WHILE you're running! haha Well see how it goes!

My mom would say there is LOTS wrong with me... but I wouldn't believe anything she says!

Something I learned in yoga is how to separate your toes. When you stand straight (tadasana or mountain pose) you are supposed to spread your toes. It's hard at first but becomes easy. I remind myself when I am running to spread my toes and it keeps them happier. Here is a link: http://www.yogajournal.com/poses/492_1.cfm
