haha nessa you won't break anything. you are going to do fantastic.. and if you feel like you might break something, slow down and take it easy (number 1 rule to exercise)

although i don't know if you should take advice from me, the girl who starts bleeding while practicing yoga.

oh sweetie... do you know how i broke my ankle? I fell down three stairs.. and destroyed my ankle... but i gotta suck it up and do this.

oh nessa you are talking to the queen of falling down stairs. i did it twice and managed to sprain my left ankle both times.

i've done step before with no problems though.. although if you have weak ankles i'd advise taking it easy at first. i'm not entirely sure how bodystep is but i know in normal step sometimes they'll make you do jumping jacks and then they'll give you a lower impact option.. always go for the lower. ALSO be wary of rapid changes in direction (although that happens more in kickboxing) i think that was what happened to my ankle that never healed (the right.. go figure).

stairs still scare me to death.

but seriously, if your ankles start feeling weak don't hesitate to take it easy or even stop.

Let us know how you like it Nessa! I don't care for step classes myself, I think they're SO DARNED BORING and I just watch the second hand on the clock the whole time. Not. Good.

To each his own, however! I think I'm certainly the exception.

Good luck, Nessa. Don't push too hard and have fun!

I doubt that you are the exception. and i doubt i'll love it... but i'll try it.

I finally did figure out my motivation to exercise.

BodyStep is a blast and I, a 60 year old male, was also a little worried when I started. Work on the legs and feet first, the arms will come later. If you are not use to seeing an instructor lead in reverse, be behind a person who is experienced, (but remember even experienced people get lost once in a while.) Have fun and please do not get discouraged the first time, it really does come with time. Within a few times, you might be singing with the music too and wondering how the time passed so quickly!

BTW, when I said the instructor works in reverse, what that means is that the instructor is facing you and if the instructor says start on the left side of the bench, the instructor starts on the right.

Sometimes those negative motivators are really motivational! My main negative motivation is to not end up like my mother, who, when she went to the Grand Canyon (in her 60s, I think), walked to the edge of the parking lot, had a look down, and returned to the car. Anything else would have been too much for her.

Don't feel bad, Nessa. I threw out a Kathy Smith step aerobics DVD because I was too uncoordinated to be able to keep up with it. Think about that, in the comfort of my own home, with the capacity to slo-mo the action, I could not reach a level of proficiency that would allow me to actually benefit from the workout. :(

I'm sure you did fine. The point is, did you have fun? Are you going to go again?

Every time I see trainers, it seems they're always having their new clients do lunges.

Seems to guarantee soreness.

And cause them to think they got their "money's worth."
