Okay, here's the deal. I'm doing Beachbody's Power 90 program and I am ready to move on to phase 3-4...except for when it comes to push-ups. I can do abou 20 standard push-ups well, 15 fly (wide arm) push-ups, and about 5 close arm push-ups, but the last ones, I cannot get to the bottom of the movement correctly without my arms giving up and me doing a face plant!

so, for those of you who love push-ups :P :P, is there any way that I can do these or are there other exercises that I should be doing on top of the Circuit training I'm already doing in order to be able to do the close push-ups correctly?

Thanks
Tanya

BTW- Other than the push-ups, I LOVE THIS PROGRAM!!

If I'm understanding you correctly, you're having trouble with the ones with your hands closest together? If that's what you mean, your triceps are weak. The closer your hand are together on push-ups, the more it's working your triceps and the less it's working your chest. Triceps are a "tradtionally weak" muscle for women.

You can try tricep kickbacks and tricep extensions (google those and you will be able to find pix). If you have access to a weight machine with overhead pulleys, you can also to triceps press.

I read your post and i am just getting ready to start SBD and want to work with a new routine as well. I saw you post and wondered what is the workout you mentioned?

Hi wannabeagreatmom

i've been doing Power 90 for about 6 weeks now, and I really like it. I bought it off of Beachbody.com. They have all kinds of workout routines, but I like this one and Slimin 6 the best. You can probably find them both on Ebay a little cheaper than on the beachbody site. These home programs allow me to get in my daily exercise with a new baby...it's not always easy.

BTW- if you're a new mom, we actuallyhave a new group going called beachin hot mammas in the South Beach forum. You're more than welcome.

I an definitely not a new mom. I will be forty this year and really want this eating, working out and good shape thing well under way for my gift to myself this September. I have not only one child, but four others as well. I am down to pre-baby weight for number five, but have about 30 more pounds to go. Shall we say that my stomach and hips are not what they used to be? Actually, they were never that great, but I would just like to be comfortable in a swimsuit! The workout you mentioned, i take it you are able to do this at home. I really cannot do the gym right now, but I have plenty of free weights.

that's pretty good if you can go 15 pushups on your toes! wow.

i have P90 (and other tony workouts). try using push-up handle bars or if you don't have those, dumbbells. it increases your range of motion and changes the angle of your wrists. position the handles or DBs on the floor where you would put your hands, then grasp each and do your push-ups in the normal fashion.

another thing you can do is prop your legs onto a stability ball (if you have one, if not, walmart carries these) and try doing the entire routine for push-ups using this fitness toy. it forces you to focus the intensity on your abs and less on your wrists. ideally, you ought to be doing it this way (emphasize the abs) when not using a stability ball.

you can also try doing the last few reps on your knees instead of your toes. or just take a short break for 1 rep, and finish the last 4.
