Congrats Tanya!! give yourself a treat!!

I've been good this week, I am a litlle sore from my push ups, It is amazing how a week of not working out makes your loose your strength
I am happy I can sytll do 3 sets of 10 boy-style.
I have a question, for the challeneg purpose, I ususally do 35 min HIIT on the elliptical and then 30 min on the stationary bike at a lower intensity (fat bruning zone), does that count as 1 or 2 cardio for the challenge?

where is the point thread?
I think I am getting to my goal this week, I've been eating beachy and I can feel the difference in energy already!!

hope you are all doing good

I just did a great big feat!
Four times exercising to the Body beat.
Body Step, Combat, Flow,
Pump I love you know
I did it 25 hours and felt no defeat.

I have this theory about me and exercise and weight loss. I figure that for me, any weight loss will require a shock to my system. Last November when I doubled my exercise from 3 times a week to 6 times a week, I started losing at the rate of a pound a week. This lasted for approximately 16 weeks! Then the loss stopped and I remained at a level point of 211 to 209. So this week, actually starting on Sunday, gave my exercise routine another kick in boot. Sunday I did BodyCombat and BodyFlow with a pre-exercise weight of 213, I was super hydrated! Monday I did BodyPump with a pre-exercise weight of 210. Tuesday I did BodyFlow still with the pre-exercise weight of 210. Wednesday I did BodyPump with a pre-exercise weight of 209. Thursday morning I did BodyStep with a pre-exercise weight still at 209. Thursday evening I did BodyCombat and BodyFlow with a pre-exercise weight of 208. Today, Friday I did BodyPump with a pre-exercise weight of 207! Maybe there is something to my theory.

And the shocking part is that I feel no ill effects from the adding exercise, but just the opposite. My osteoarthritis pain is reduced and my energy level feels greater. BTW, my DW has given up on me and written me off as a nut case. Just think I got the gym membership initially for her!

BTW2. When I stated that I super-hydrated it was becuase that morning I felt a pang of a possible kidney stone. So, before going to the gym in the morning I had liter of water, a quart of SF cranberry juice, and a grande coffee. I also had 750 ml of water during the class. The kidney pangs never reappeared.

Bob
great for you having such enthusiasm in working out, I can't live without it either. Just ve careful with overdoing it. So here goes a litlle pep talk

There's some truth to the fatc that "shocking" your body leads to some inmediate results, it is good to keep your body guessing, but it will eventually stop when your body gets used to the routine, specially since you are doing pre-coregrpahed classes. Metabolically speaking, you need to generate a deficit of 3500 calories to loose a pound of fat, so your weight fluctuations are as yous uspect probably due to water loss. And not only due ot dehydration however. Working out at a high intensity wihout resting depletes your glycogen storage (glycogen is stored with water, so you loose water, and that water doesn't come back even if you drink more water until you restore the glycogen reserves). It also may have the unpleasant side effect of breaking down muscle. I am guessing that what you want to loose is not really weight but fat, so take a break or alternate your activities with some low intensity (fat burning) cardio. Don't get me wrong high intensity is good, but your body (and joints) need a break, even if you don't feel it right now, you may a year from now.

I should explain, BodyPump is mainly strength training, BodyStep is moderate to high level cardio training, BodyCombat is a high level cardio, and BodyFlow is a strength with balance and flexibility. I have been doing BodyPump for the last 2 years at my maximum level. Since I am a type 2 diabetic controlled by diet and exercise, I keep a very close watch on my glucose level. I wear a cardiac monitor in all cardio exercise and I bring my exercise up to the point that I and my physician feel is appropriate, (higher than the charts say an average 60 year old man should be!) I would also add that proper form and monitoring of that form in strength and cardio exercise does not have to be hard on the joints but by increasing the blood flow in the joint area reduces inflammation of osteoarthritis.

And finally, as far as the weight, I know that my weight, always taken on the same scale and usually at the same time of day, can bounce either way by as much as 2 to 3 pounds. Therefore I weigh myself daily to see the general trend. I will be very pleased if the general trend I am seeing now averages out to a pound a week.

Bob, you are an inspiration to us all! Keep up the good work!

Are you going to buy and run your gym once you retire?

Are you going to buy and run your gym once you retire? I don't know where all this is going to end, but buying the gym is not it. I just love the feeling that I now am getting. Today I noticed that I am beginning to excell at BodyStep and not just do it. I am doing the extra hop, the extra reach in the kick, and I am no longer in the back row. And even in the gym that some of the others seem to be picking up the energy I have. I am going to be 61 this coming August, I just wonder why I waited so long! Now if I could only get my DW inspired!

HI
Bob, I am an instructor and familiar with the body.. type of workouts

You comiitement is inspiring
Have you considered being an instructor? you can probably inspire a lot of people.

I too have seen to many people blow knees by bad form on squats and lunges. I have a number of friends hurt there shoulders on the bench presses by bouncing the bar on their chests and thereby hyper extending their shoulders. The beauty of the Body... classes is that the courses are design to avoid injuries and the instructors watch us like hawks to insure that we follow form. I have been in these courses for over 2 years now and none of the injuries I had were related to the exercise classes. The injuries came from snow shoving of all things...

There has been a little talk about me taking the instructor course for BobyVive, a new course that the gym will be offering for the 40 and over set. But an instructor who is 60 years old. :!: The are checking with their insurance and with the supplier of the classes.

Bob, your age shouldn't be a problem, actually it is an inspiration!!
Joseph Pilates tought until he was 80, and he was solid as a rock, some of his students are still teaching Pilates in New York, and they are unbelievable (and they are 75 an up!!). Pilates is a litlle bit different, but I teach group excercise too, and I've taken classes from people that are "older" and they usually are better, because they concentrate in good form instead of crazy choreography. I used to take BodyPump, but the gym I teach now doesn't want to commit to the franchise

As for me, I had my not so beachy day on friday, had a party and had some cookies (actually I was good at that, I sampled 3 different cookies, justa bite each), but had more glasses of wine than I should. Yesterday I wasn't feeling so good, but I think it was something I ate, I onle had 3 cups of popcorn, a glasss of milk and a SB pizza and a diet coke all day, I couldn't eat. I am done with the 2 strength and 3 cardio, so I have a lot of cleaning to do and I may or may not get another cardio session in. I feel kind of weak, I may just do Pilates, it always makes me feel better

where is the point thread?

I just finished my 9th and 10th classes of the week at the gym. It is fantastic the feeling you get doing a hyper-cardio, BodyCombat, and following it with a serene strength, balancing, and stretching class, BodyFlow. You leave the gym exercised, rested, and relaxed. Then you are quietly ready to handle the rest of the day.

The rest of the day is following what my DW wants on Mother's Day, a quiet afternoon at home. Number 2 son gave her flowers yesterday and went muskie fishing today. Number 1 son who lives 500 miles away in Michigan with his family better call! I gave her a Mother’s day present, an 8 pack of 8oz. Miller Lites – which was exactly what she wanted. And finally I arranged to have a rose put at my Mother’s crypt.

Bob, you make me feel guilty!

I'm having a totally NON beachy Mother's Day/Birthday combination. I'm eating what I want, doing what I want and trying not to feel guilty about it. That'll come tomorrow I guess.

Hi all- happy Monday

Bob- I honestlythink having a 60 yr old as an instructor would motivate me even more! It'd be great to see that in more gyms!

It was a good weekend, but I didn't meet my personal goals for the week, I should have factored in Mother's day when I said I wasn't allowed any treats for the week...

I still exercised and walked, and I ate beachy most of the time, but a sliver of pecan pie on Saturday and a sliver of cheesecake Sunday were both very good. Today, I"m right back on track without a problem, and I will reach my personal goals this week! Hard to believe this is the last week of the challenge...let's all see if we can have a perfect team week!

Take care
Tanya

Hi Team- I apologize for being kind of AWOL lately. I found out a couple of weeks ago that I am expecting! I'm in my 8th week and just trying to survive. I apologize for doing this in the middle of a challenge  Today has been the first day that I have just felt truly awful and I'm just trying to keep any food down. My kids and I are still in pjs and I"m not feeling up to doing a whole lot right now. I promise to be as beachy as possible, and I know in a few hours I will feel better and can get some exercise in. I;m hoping for a walk outside in the beautiful weather.

For Mother's Day, my husband hired someone to come and rototill a garden plot for me while I was out of town on Saturday. Quite a surprise! I have a ton of starts waiting to be transplanted. Now I just have to do it! Hopefully I can do that in the next few days.

With Otter safely off on vacation, I will be keeping track of points while she is gone. If you haven't updated yet, please do so today and I will get them turned in. I hope you all have a great week! I'm feeling better already and hope to be here more!
