Hi team! I'm glad I found out about the challenge just in time. 40 minutes more and it would have been too late. To answer the introduction questions:

Why did I want to join this challenge?

Because I am motivated when I have a concrete goal and a set plan. If I'm working for something vague, I procrastinate and make excuses. I've been putting off starting to exercise again for at least a month. Now I HAVE to exercise. Exactly what I need to succeed.

What am I picking for my week 1 goal?

To do 3 DIFFERENT types of cardio exercises. I tend to get in a workout rut and do the same thing every time. This week I want to get a variety in. At least one of my workouts needs to be jogging outside, both for the bonus points AND because I've been putting off running for months. I know I like running once I get into doing it, I just don't like getting started.

A side note... I forgot to bring my water bottle to work with me today and I didn't have a dollar to buy a bottle from the vending machine. So I've forced myself to drink ALL the water this evening just to make sure I get my points. (Tomorrow I'll bring it with me. Can drinking too much water at once give you a headache?)

Anyhow. Go team RED!!!

The main thing I can think of is that your stomach might be unhappy trying to fit all that water in there. :) And I certainly wouldn't recommend drinking all your water at once as a regular thing! But it doesn't *seem* like it'd be a bad thing to do once and a while... I really don't know though! Headache might be possible though... Also, it's probably likely you'll wake up a couple times during the night to use the bathroom :)

Welcome to the Team!! Glad you found us!

Also, I like your Goal idea of doing the different types of cardio - great way to keep things interesting!

Trying to decide if I can get in any outdoor exercise this week...I don't think I'm ready to run outside and it's supposed to be cold and rainy all week...Ugh!

Might see if I can get my bicycle out of the garage. If not, I guess I'll just go for a walk, even though I hate walking in my neighborhood. See the kind of stuff I'll do for the team? :D

The gym thing worked out, the receptionist must have been braindead or something. I didn't get to do much cardio at the gym, so i did it at home after dinner, the 2 mile Walk Away the Pounds. However at the gym, the trainer had me doing all stuff with a stablizer ball and some funky cylindrical styrofoam like thing. I did wall squat, crunches and planks on the ball, push-ups on the cylindrical thing and superman crunches on the mat. Boy I think I'm going to feel this tomorrow and Wednesday! I also signed up for 2 personal training sessions a week for the next 12 months. Once hubby gets motivated to go to the gym I'll share them with him and we will each have 1 session a week. I go for my first one on Wednesday at 7am!! I hope I can wake up and be functional at 7am. They guarantee that if I go regularly I will see a difference in 1 month or I get a free month of personal training sessions. They measured my body fat... 40%... Ugh!!! he said it really wasn't really that bad but that I should be at 21% and should lose another 87 pounds. So it looks like my final goal is goig to be something more like 130 or so. We'll see when I get down around 150 or so what I think. I was 140 at 5'6" in 8th grade so 130 at 5'7" might be just a little too thin for me.

The workout felt good and I look forward to going back. I will go in the early morning most days but I have a doctor's appointment in the morning tomorrow and dinner with hubby and his manager tomorrow night, so I plan to go to the gym and use an elliptical for 30 minutes, maybe more if I can handle it.

I managed 96oz of water today.

Morning Red TEAM!!

So i changed my original workout plans yesterday a bit but it all turned out good. I actually went swimming again for the first time in FOREVER and it was good! When i was still in grad school it was my primary form of exercise (especially since that's when i started having ankle problems) but it's been harder since moving to jersey. every time i seem to have pool access it's either really far away, inconvient times or crowded. I'm going to TRY and start going before work, but it's REALLY early (i'm technically supposed to be at work at 7 am.

Dragonrose: I'm jealous! i want a personal trainer. Cardio i have down but i hate hate hate doing strength training. it'd be easier if a had a trainer to kick me into gear.

maltby: where do you live.. i think here it's supposed to clear up and get nicer friday and saturday.

summer_belle: WELCOME!!!

Dark Chocolate: good job on resisiting. I understand both sides of it. being a baker, if i make something i want others to eat it and enjoy it and tell me how wonderful it is. on the flip side, i HATE it when people try to peer pressure me into eating something i don't want to. I work with a lot of men so it happens a lot. they don't understand i don't have their metabolism. why is it that men want hot sexy in shape women but they're always trying to feed us! sorry, personal rant over.

Our whole team has Weekly Log entries set up, and almost everyone has checked into this thread, so I think we are off to a GREAT start!

I did great with food, water, gym workout, and crunches yesterday... but boy, I was NOT in the mood for those pushups! BUT I got myself to do them anyway, since I did NOT want to let you all down! So THANKS everyone, I think the motivation of this Challenge really is going to do great things for me!

And the pushups are already MUCH easier than they were when I started a week or so ago, so that's encouraging!

Sounds like we are all off to a great start. Lets keep each other motivated for the long haul!

I actually went out running last night and it felt great. The great part is that my knee isn't hurting today. I hope that the last couple of months of rest has helped with it.

Good luck all, stay strong!

Jersey: I live in Western Washington. Spring weather here is chancy at best, but this year is bad. We're looking at lows in the mid-30s with a chance of rain for most of this week. It's a horrible weather year. So far late frost has burned my hydrangeas and my peonies.

Dragonrose: I'm glad the gym thing worked itself out. I envy you the trainer, but I wouldn't trade a that for my gym in our basement. I love having everything right here. It eliminates a few excuses for not working out.

Pa'dow!

Hey all - happy Day 2 of the Spring Fitness Challenge!

I have a question for you all. Do you plan to monitor your weight (say like once a week)? Or are you waiting until the very end of the challenge? (I guess it was two questions.)

Also, summer_belle, there is actually something called water intoxification. I'm sure the amount of water has to be great but in recent months there was a radio stint gone bad due to water intoxification. Of course being it was a radio stint, the gal denied herself going to the bathroom. Just wanted to mention it.

Morning Red Team! Happy Day 2 :D

Yesterday I did my "extra" cardio session. I know, pretty ballsy to say its my extra when its my first of the week but I have been running 3 times a week for the last 9 weeks so i figure i can count on that. I went on the stationary bike. It kills me! Not in the same way as running but my thighs are soo tired and my butt is sore:) I also did strength training yesterday.

FYI summer-belle and anyone else who is interested. Drinking too much water has a name hyponatremia. 4 runners have died in the last 12 years after participating in marathons. And also as already mentioned there was that radio thing. That said, I dont think the average needs to worry about it. It happens during extreme situations. I read about it on runners world website.

I just read an inspirational story (whether you are male or female but maybe moreso if you are female) at runnersworld.com

http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,sssssss6-243-297--11735-1-1X2X3X4X5X6-7,00.html

its about the first woman to sign up and finish the boston marathon. Good stuff!

Hope we all have an awesome day

I think I've heard of the water intoxication thing before. I know drinking all the water in the evening wasn't ideal, but I think I would have had almost as much anyhow, just from being thirsty. Yesterday was just a weird day.

I have the water bottle here today and I've already finished one 32-oz bottle full. Definitely better than yesterday. I'm starting the workout stuff today too. Probably I'll try to find a fun on-demand exercise (yay for digital cable). I plan on doing cardio and strength tonight. I'm looking forward to getting into a good exercise schedule.

Pa'dow - I step on the scale almost obsessively, so I'm not sure if I could go 5 weeks without seeing my weight.

Backhoegirl - I admire you for sticking with the running 3X a week. Hopefully during this challenge I'll be able to convince myself that I want to go running too.

Everybody - keep up the good work.

Go red team, go!

:D

Arms...and...legs...hate...me...today! And I get to go abuse them again tomorrow morning. It is funny, they hurt and I feel sort of week in the arms, but at the same tgime it feels good. You know what I mean?

I was going to the gym tonight after dinner with DH and his boss but that was postponed until tomorrow night so I will be falling back to my 2 mile WATP dvd with 5lb ankle weights and 2 pound wrist weights instead tonight plus my 60 crunches.

I had a doctor's appontment this morning and she was thrilled with both my weight loss and how well I got my blood sugar under control. According to the doctor's office scale I have lost 15 pounds instead of the 12.5 my scale shows. I think though that their starting weight may have been from a couple weeks before I actually started to really try to lose weight. Whatever, the doctor was very pleased to see the loss since she asked for 10 pounds and got a little more then that.

Um, I weigh every day  , so the answer is yes for me. It's only official on one day, however. I don't let the number bother me (except on the official weigh in day, which for this challenge is Mondays). I'll probably post it each week in my log. I'm also - talk about going out on a limb - going to post my before- and after-challenge measurements in my log. Just want to make sure that I can track how this works for me. I'm goal oriented.

I did not go to the gym last night, did not have time, but I did good with eating beachy and drinking my water.

I weigh in every Sunday. Scale did not move for past two month (I hate it).

UGH guys i'm seriously dragging today and i don't know why. the thought of going to the gym makes me shudder. I know i'll feel better once i get there but i'm so exhausted for some reason.

Dragonrose: congrats with the good results!! :)

as for weighing i do better when i weigh everyday. even though sometimes it makes me sad. when i avoid the scale usually it means i'm not doing well. i can't decide if i avoid the scale because i'm not doing well or don't do well because i'm avoiding the scale.

either way i usually lose weight better when i weigh every day (as depressing as that can be sometimes.. you know how some people have body dysmorphia and envision themselves fatter than they are? i think i have that in reverse. :))
