Hi all - happy first day of the challenge!
OK - so now DH can't tell me where that quote is from ... we're thinking some sort of war movie (in case you missed it the quote is "Has anyone seen the Red Team?" Sorry to get all excited and then not be able to site a source. I guess my source is DH. :D
We're supposed to be close to 70 degrees today - I'm hoping for outdoor exercise tonight. |

Hi Teamies!! Thanks for letting me join! I'm glad i found the thread today.. otherwise it would have been too late.
Lessee... i joined this challenge because i need a swift kick in the rear. I've been majorly slacking recently (especially when it comes to eating exactly on plan) and when i have teammates i'm accountable to I usually try harder not to let you down! I'm going to be a bridesmaid in my best friend's wedding in October, plus i've got another wedding before then. Plus i might be going to a party in about 3 weeks that I already have a dress i want to wear to, but it's a wee bit tight. Challenges do me good and I'm really looking foward to the next 5 weeks with all of you!!
If i remember correctly i just wrote my personal goals this week. I need to do abs at least twice a week (i hate hate hate abs) and at least 4 cardio sessions a week. Plus i need to get my FULL veggies with every meal (and by that i guess i mean lunch and dinner because I didn't really mean breakfast).
I think that's it. :)
OH and my name is Marnie, so you can call me that. Or MP, really i'll respond to anything (even "hey hot stuff" ;))
PS: Pa'Dow! (cool name btw) I am TOTALLY jealous of 70 degree weather.. i'll be lucky if t stop raining this week so i can get outside! |

where is everyone? OOH i get it-- we're the best team so everyone is already out exercising.
we should have a Red Team mascot. :) Something intimidating!
oh btw, Dark Choc, my sis lives in boston and i talked to her yesterday and she said it was hailing.... those poor marathoners. she told me last year she watched the marathon in a skirt and flip flops and got a bit sunburnt!! |

Hmmm a mascot, great idea!
It was really exciting watching the Boston Marathon. I've never really watched it before, but since I've been getting into jogging lately it was more interesting. It was neat learning more about the marathon through the commentary they did through the race... and you're right, they mentioned how some years the runners have to deal with 80-degree temps, and this year, of course, it's wet and sloppy and awful! Things seem to have cleared up by now, but for the "Elite" runners who went earlier in the morning - it wasn't pretty!
Just finished a really filling chili late-lunch, and I'm heading off to Tutor in a couple hours... and then I'm going to head over to the gym. I'm actually really looking forward to it, which is silly. All these runners have me feeling so motivated! |

| I'm here. Doing pretty good today I'd say! Look forward to leaving work soon. I'll be going home to do some homework and then either walk/run the dog or go to the gym. Good luck everyone! |

Hello Team Mates! Can I get a woo-hoo!?!
First Id like to address our fearless leaders original questions:
Why did I want to join this challenge? Well when i first joined this forum there was a challenge already under way and i was like "wow that would really kick me in the butt" then the extreme challenge started and I knew I just wasnt there yet, I had really only just started exercising regularly for the first time in my life. So im stoked theres a challenge i can join and i feel like i can do my team proud!
Also last week (sat) I finished the Couch to 5k program. Major accomplishment for me. Buuut I already was feeling on Sunday like I didnt have the reason to push anymore. I dont want to lose what ive gained(dont hear that often around here haha). (btw I lost 5 inches doing the program!) I need structure to keep my motivated. So this is great.
Finally, I havent lost a pound in MONTHS! I gained about 10 pounds through December and my honeymoon Jan 6-13th and have stayed at 153 ever since. I KNOW that its because my eating has not been what it should so hopefully this challenge will get me back in line!
What am I picking for my week 1 goal? I dont want to be too easy on myself, Dark Chocolates goal is intense! but I also want to build through the weeks of the challenge. So I would like to get back into my pilates dvds, I know pilates is good for me, i always see results when i stick to it but i always fall off the wagon so to speak. So I want to do pilates dvds twice this week! |

Grrr... so I call the gym a little while ago to see about changing my 7pm training time to 6:15 or so since I get off work at 6 and the gym is less then 5 minutes away. The receptionist first tells me the person I'm scheduled with is off today, then tells me I am on the schedule for 5pm not 7pm. Now first of all, the person I'm scheduled with made the appointment himself and second of all he wrote down the day and time on his business card. Not a good first impression here. I am waiting for him of his manager to call me back now so I can find out what is going on.
Even if I can not get the training session tonight, I am still going for my workout.
A quick question... what in your opinion makes a better pre-workout snack: 6oz yogurt + 2T peanut butter on 1 slice of Ezekiel sprouted grain bread OR 1c ff cottage cheese with 3/4c sliced strawberries? |

how is everyone's first day? things here are going well... i couldnt find my nalgene bottle this morning so i have to measure out my water in bottles. which is fine, just a little different.
i was talking with one of the mechanics in my department earlier, and he said that he would show me how to use some of the weight machines in our gym here, as well as exercises with free weights. yay! ive always wanted to learn what to do, but was too scared to ask someone. one of the benefits of working in an almost completely male workplace. exercise and car tips.
darkchocolate, i had chili for lunch too! chicken chili, very good! i am still amazed at how 1 cup of chili and green beans can fill me up.
anyhow, ive had this response up for a few hours and have had so many distractions i havent been able to finish it. now, its time to go home!
hope you all had a great first day! |

from those, i would say... cottage cheese and strawberries. i personally have a banana (with or without peanut butter, depending on my mood) about 1/2 an hour before exercise, and its great for me. i would say try different things until you find something you like, and that works for you. |

Dragonrose - how frustrating about the trainer!!! Hopefully that will get worked out. It still sound like the new gym will be a good thing!
I'm so psyched reading about all the plans everyone is making on how to incorporate more exercise, etc. into their lives!
I did the first workout of Week 6 of Cto5K tonight (which in fact did seem easier than yesterday's crazy 20min jog!), and it really felt great. Also got in some weights.
I managed to go through my 64oz of water a lot easier than normal today... I must be getting better at drinking it regularly throughout the day! Which is exciting, because it was torture at first. :)
Managed to completely avoid a birthday party situation today... which is a good thing. The birthday girl is having her actual party this weekend, so we'll deal with that challenge when we get to it. But today was her actual bday, so she baked a cake. I had told her that I wasn't going to have any since I'm doing all this jogging training, and she started whining and giving me all this "but the training doesn't say you can't have a piece of cake!" crap, so I just ENDED the conversation. It seemed abrupt, but I was just NOT in the mood to deal with that sort of thing. And then I made sure I was at the gym while the cake was being eaten, so hooray! It wasn't that I was tempted to eat it, just that I didn't feel like dealing with that sort of situation, even among my friends. At any rate, I survived!! |

Sometimes our friends and family can make it harder on us than our worst enemies ever could! So taking refuge in the gym was a great idea.
It sounds like everyone is off to a great start. Woo hoo for the Red Team! |
