for swimming laps and water fitness? I want to vary my routine of circuit trainiing and treadmill , and my gym has a lap pool. TIA for any advice.

Go to the pool and get wet. See what you're capable of doing and then set a goal for yourself...increase your distance 10%/week and/or improve your lap times....
