HELP please...South Beach and kidney disease

I went through the topics posted and didn't find an answer to a question I have so am posting it here.
I had been faithfully following SB for 2.5 months and lost 19 pounds. However, I was diagnosed with PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease) and told to switch to a low protein diet. Other than the kidney problems, I felt great on SB, lots of energy and overall wellness. (PKD was there long before SB most likely).
I know South Beach is a high protein diet but I was wondering if there is any way to stick with it just lowering my protein intake? Any low protein diets I have found are high carb (and not good carbs).
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't say that SB is a high protein diet. Basically, you're just having a relatively small serving of protein, i.e., meat, fish, poultry, egg or cheese, at each meal. Quantity-wise, the bulk of your food should be coming from vegetables. Is there a specific number of grams of protein each day that you have to stay under? It seems like you would just be able to adjust your protein to meet that number, then make up and additional calories that you need with veggies and, within the SB guidelines, fruits and grains.

thanks very much for your reply. I haven't been given a specific number of grams of protein the Doctor is suggesting. I am going to try and get an appointment with a Nutritionist sometime in the near future to find out.
for now, I'll eat protein very sparingly and up my veggies, grains and fruit to compensate for that.

Thanks again for your reply!
