I am on day 2 in phase 1 and I went cold turkey off of the caffiene. I drank atleast 6 cans of Pepsi a day. Has anyone else had this and what did you do to make it better. I tried Ibuprofen but it is not touching it. Help someone! I am weakening fast! :x : :x x

My fiance had those....

they went away about day 4 or 5....

they are not easy to deal with...but i had him taking excedrin regularly while he was hurting...and it helped a lot...

and remember to drink your water!! that makes a big difference too...

and think about this... once you are off all this caffeen...and you really need a pick me up one day... and you grab that can of pepsi.. the one can will have so much more of an effect!!

that is what i luv about being mostly caffeen free!! when i need it .. it works!!

I went decaf for 7 days. The headache/crankiness disappeared after day 5 or 6. I then decided it was too much to ask to give up carbs, fat, sugar, alcohol and caffiene too, so I'm back on regular coffee (2 cups) and 1 caffinated diet soda a day. Has not made a difference in my loss, 7 lbs in 14 days.

Thanks CSC I think that I am going to break down and have a Diet Pepsi tonight. I tried the Excedrin and it hasn't helped yet. If I can make it through the first week without regular Pepsi I know that I will be OK. :? :?

so are we even allowed to have diet soda? i know they said no sugar or carbs but i have been living through the last three days with diet soda just to fill me up, and assumed as long as i went without succoming to cravings that if you can deal with the caffine (no sugar or carbs in diet soda) that you could have it...? a little confused... thanks, and good luck to the rest of you! :P

I don't understand the coffee prohibition ... if anything, caffine is a mild metabolic stimulant; many of the OTC diet pills are based on a caffine stack of some sort ... but I digress

I kept the coffee too ... it's only 2 cups first thing and I drink it pretty close to black anyway with aspertame.

For those taking Excedrine, .... what's up with that? ... Excedrine is caffine infused asprin ... so it's not helping the withdrawl any, you're just getting it from a differnt source.

it is not like it has a ton of caffeen in it... not even enough to make a difference... =P

... try whatever pain killer you want... i just said exedrin because that is all i keep in the hosue... i am sure anything would work...=P

http://www.excedrin.com/8_product_info/8-1a_eselabel.html ... that's the Excedrin product info page ... 65mg of caffine per tablet. That's not much less than a normal cup of coffee (~80mg) and just as much as a Jolt cola and many other soft drinks ...

I'm not being critical for taking it, just pointing out that you might as well have the coffee if you want it :)

I began weaning myself from the caffein when I started sbd. I use one scoop of regular and one scoop of decaf in my coffee each morning. However since this is working for me I don't think I'll be stepping down to completely decaf any time soon.

The caffeine headaches have already started for me (day 2 P1) and especially my BF. In the book it says that we are allowed to have like 6 or 8 ounces of caffeine per day but that's IT. I've started drinking more seltzer (instead of a diet soda) with a squirt or lemon or lime juice--it makes it taste better and when I have it with meals it makes me feel a little fuller. Has anyone else noticed the same?

As for painkillers for headaches--I've just been taking 2 ibuprofens when I get back from walking in the morning. It seems to have worked, then again--it's only day 2 and my headaches could get much worse.

But for some encouragement: I've given up smoking, caffeine, and carbs all in a matter of three weeks-- 3 of my 'addictions' all at once...now THAT'S hard--

As a caffeine withdrawl veteran (have quit cold turkey many times) usually the first two days are the toughest. For me headaches disappear by day 3. I have learned that it's much easy to wean myself off gradually over the period of about 5 days. Each day I drink 1/2 as much as the day before. Once I'm down to 1 can of diet soda I can quit the next day without headaches.

I am on day 12 of p1. My understanding when I read the book is that you don't have to go cold turkey in cutting out the caffeine, but to reduce gradually if that is better for you. What I started out doing was making my coffee 50/50 caffinated/mixed with decaf. I am now down to a 25/75 mix and have avoided those horrible headaches. The book also states you may have skim milk in your coffee or tea.
Hope this helps.

YES....Day 1 is almost over and I've had a DULL headache all day. I usually have about 3 cups of coffee during the course of the day. It's going to be tough, but I'm willing to put up with it to see the results in the end.

These forums are great!! I've found it so helpful reading all of them.

Thanks everyone!!
