| I'm switching BC pills, and this is what my doctor suggested. Anyone else take this? I've been having a lot of spotting between periods, so she thought this might be a better alternative for me. Just interested in feedback from others! |

I have been on Seasonale for about 4 years now, and I love it.
It took a good 2 months for it to really kick in. During the first 2 months I had breakthrough bleeding, but for me it was just spotting and not that annoying. It may vary with every person, though. That was just my experience.
There is some controversy over it. You only get your period 4 times a year. Some people say this is not "natural". Other people say getting a period every month is not "natural" because before birth control women were pregnant much more often, so didn't have their period every month.
My periods were horrible (bad cramps) and something about the hormone fluctuations screwed up my immune system (I have autoimmune problems, too). Every time I got my period, I would be more vulnerable to catching a cold or a flu and often I'd be sick for weeks. I just couldn't take it. For me, this was the best decision. I'm no longer sick all the time :)
There is a generic version available now, which is nice. It isn't as expensive as the Seasonale. However, since you buy 3 months at a time, you have to spend more at one time. (That is, it equals out to the same price as most BCP, but you have to spend 3 times as much at one time --but then you don't have to spend anything during the next 2 months because you already have your meds.)
It seems that BCP affect everyone differently. These worked really well for me, and I hope they work for you, but if they don't work for you, don't be afraid to ask you doctor to switch.
Good luck!
Christy (first post, but I've been lurking for about a week now :) ) |

i've never taken seasonale, but i am a HUGE advocate of the every four months period! i have been on the nuvaring for about three years now and i really like it. plus, it's effective for up to 35 days, so i change it out every 30 to be safe, and then have a ring-free week every three or four months.
after any change in hormonal contraceptives you get breakthrough bleeding for the first few months, but that typically goes away. i think spotting in between periods is also fairly normal, but should be occasional at most.
just a plug for the ring, because i've really liked it. might be another option to consider with similar effects. |

Thanks for all the info! I was concerned because I still had a period last month. So far, I've had a bit of cramping this month, but no breakthrough bleeding so far.
A-Rod, I had thought about trying the ring, but I just wasn't sure about it. Had a few concerns about insertion and whether or not it would really stay put, if you know what I mean! |

i find it kind of odd that you actually had a period last month ... though maybe that's "more normal" with seasonale because it works differently.
if that doesn't work out for you, i really do recommend the ring. insertion is really easy, and it definitely stays put [i only had one awkward casualty]. you can take it out for up to 6 hours, so if you prefer to remove it during sex, you can ... my BF said he doesn't notice it's there, though. |
