Ok i'm a beginner at running, I did a bit last year but stopped I don't remember why. I love to run even thought I am only at my first steps. I need to buy good running shoes because I know it's important if you want to perform and avoid injuries.

I went to a running store yesterday, the guy explained me that he was gonna check my feets and find good shoes for me. Great! BUT all of his shoes were 115$ and up.... He said that under that price it's not worth it. So i'm kinda looking for a second opinion here....! I will probably check in other stores for prices but I want to find someone that knows about running not the random seller guy in a random sports store...

So...my question is... Can you find great shoes under 100$? I'm starting and i'm planning to do something like 3 X 30 minutes each week... Got an idea?

Mary..... he is full of baloney!! :D

I normally order my Nike's right from Nike and they usually run anywhere from $85 to $100. (I run in the Air Max Triax's.)
Assuming he sells different brands, and that you would trust his judgement in a running shoe (other than price), have him fit you for a shoe...... then buy it somewhere else?

and good for you for starting up again!

Try Sports Authority or Academy. They usually have a range of different prices with several good running brands (Nike, New Balance, Asics, etc). Usually the cheaper versions are just older models, but still good manufacturing.

That's why I did not bought anything yet! I don't think I NEED pricey shoes like that! I will keep looking and see what other stores have to say about that!

"I'm willing to spend up to $85, no more." At least that's what I say.

I picked up a second pair of Nike Air Maxx for $30 at TJMAXX. Sometimes I never know what I might find at Marshalls either. My first pair for real running I bought at Dicks Sporting Goods Sidewalk Sale and found great prices. Most important tho is fit. First figure out what kind of sneaker they recommended and why and then look for the best price around and soar.

Right now, I no longer buy a pair without seeing myself run on them, videoed, on a treadmill in a running store.

I figure I probably "waste" an extra $25 or something to do this. Assuming four pair of running shoes a year, that's $100 a year.

Right now I figure that it's worth it to spend that to help make sure I get the health benefits of running and yet do my best to minimize any injury risks associated with the shoes.

When I was just getting started, I don't think it mattered as much. But with a bit higher mileage I think it does. Even so, I sometimes think I should have started buying running shoes this way, at the running store, from the start.

And perhaps in a number of pair later, I'll actually know what brands and what models actually work well for me.

Exactly!

I've run in the same shoe for so long (well same make and brand anyway... :D ) that I can just order that style and know it will work for me......

I'm still experimenting. I have Nikes, Brooks, and Asics in the closet. So far, my Brooks have been the favorite. But that's me.

I just did the treadmill-in-the-running-store fitting. I'm experimenting, too. I liked my Asics but wanted to make sure I was in the right shoes. Now I have a pair of Brooks and the left one is great but the jury's still out on the right one.

Anyway, both times I paid $90. Seems to be the going rate for running shoes around here. I am hoping to eventually find a shoe I can stick with, and buy it on sale at Dick's for $25 less than I pay at the running store.

Good luck!

I just bought a pair of Asics at Dick's Sporting Goods. I have been having alot of problems with heel pain in my left foot and my podiatrist reccommended I get a pair of good quality sneakers. I told them at the store that I wanted them for running and something to help my heel problem. The salesman thought the asics were good for support for my heel as they have the gel in them. I paid $95 for them and they are the best sneakers I have ever owned. They also really help to give good support to my poor heel.

Nadia, has anyone checked out your form? I wonder if you're heel striking too hard. Have you tried landing more mid-foot?

Another Brooks fan here. I LOVE their Adrenaline model! I am on my third pair in a row of that brand/style and they are the most comfortable running shoes ever! I walk a LOT (15-18 or so miles a week) and these are just awesome!
