Hope your ride went well Jams!
I went out for 11 miles on Tuesday and had planned to go out tonight but life got in the way. That's alright, dh has tomorrow off so I can go in the morning. I'm also going to ride with a local club on Sat and am pretty excited about it. It'll be hot though, highs of 102 that day.
I love reading Jams and WGirl talking about biking (I even learn stuff every once in a while, LOL) but where'd everyone else go?

I dunno. I have two more days of recovery, then a warm up, Monday is power test, and then it's back to racing and recovery. Longest week ever.

Wow, I get tired just reading your schedule!
I tried to ride with the club today and learned just how slow and horrible at hills I am. They were a super nice group and don't leave people behind but I was dragging too back to continue. Their average speed was 15mph but I think I've only been riding about 10-11mph and it was a big enough difference to thump me with! The embarrassing thing is I was the youngest rider by far. I would guess they were all in their 60s & 70s with one guy maybe in his 50s. It is nice to know I can be in awesome shape at that age if I stick to it though!
The guy riding in the back with me was nice enough to try and convince me that if I was riding a lighter bike and had clips or straps I'd be keeping up. Umm, sure I would. LOL!
The also do shorter rides during the week so I'm going to join some of those and work on getting my speed up. My new goal is to do another Sat ride with them and keep up!

Clipless pedals and a better bike can make a difference in your speed.

I'm sure they would but I don't know that it would have made enough of a difference. Today gave me a new goal and motivation to work toward it. The next Sat I ride with them I will NOT be behind!

I so want to start riding again, but my bike's still in the shop because I got RAN OVER BY A CAR!! Fortunately not hard, that would have caused fatal injuries...but the stupid driver didn't stop at the stop sign. She did one of those 'rolling stops' and kept going! Hit me on the side. It was really traumatic to say the least. I have to get a new fork and everything. CRAZY DRIVERS! I HATE THEM! So I've been running instead. I miss the speed though...

Yikes! That's my biggest fear when I ride busier roads. I'm glad you made it ok but sorry about your bike. I'll probably keep my heavy old Murray even after I get a road bike just in case. I hope your bike gets fixed up soon!

GF, Glad you are OK. Her insurance should cover your repairs. Hope you and your bike come out even better than before.

Rode 16 miles this morning. Some wind heading out - 17mph but not bad. I was beat and my legs did NOT want to ride this morning so I'm proud that I pushed and got it done. The blackberries I wanted to pick along the way kept me going. LOL! I was hoping for a 25 mile ride tomorrow but we'll see. :?
Anyone else ride today?

Question...
Does the size of your wheels affect your speed? Meaning, if my wheels are smaller than my husband's, his bike will go faster in the same gear with the same cadence, correct? |
