I just started the Couch to 5K program this week. One of the big reasons I chose running as my exercise is for the hope that my legs will look great. I really hate my legs and I'm hoping for a big change with the C25K along with the SBD.
Anyone get great results in their legs or notice a big change? I really want to wear shorts this summer! |

(I have pics in the "before and afters".... I think on page 3 (scroll down through the scenery pics), I have a pair of running shorts on.....) |

Hey coffebean!
I started Cto5K three weeks ago (just did Week 4, workout 1 yesterday). Before that, I'd been doing the elliptical for a couple weeks, and before that.... really nothing. So I'm really just starting out. :)
Anyway, I just wanted to share: my boyfriend (who lives out of town and who I hadn't seen since I had barely started Cto5K) came to visit this past weekend, and pointed out to me that I have little baby calf muscles growing! It was quite exciting to realize, as there were absolutely no noticeable muscles there before a few weeks ago!
I am nowhere near the point of having "runners' legs" by any means, but it's still SO encouraging that I actually am noticing something already! It makes me even more excited to see how things progress :)
Good luck with Cto5K! I've been REALLY loving it :) |

Today I'm supposed to complete my second day of week 1 in Cto5K and my legs hurt so much and I have a horrible headache...however, after reading your replies, it has really encouraged me to push through and complete my workout today.
luvs_torun...your pics are great..very encouraging! Hope I too can one day have legs like that!
DarkChocolate...It's so exciting to know that you saw changes like that in such a short amount of time! I'm so excited now! Thanks. |

My legs are definitely looking better. I've always had heavy legs, even when I was thin, but right now, they're definitely the best looking part of me. (That's not saying much!)
I have noticeable hamstrings, and now my quads are starting to look bigger. Unfortunately, they're still covered by a bit of fat, so they look quite big, but the fat will eventually disappear. |

| My legs have truly morphed-especially the shins and thighs. When heavy I was a pear shape and now I am more straight up and down. Love the muscle definition I have now. |

| I am on week 2 of the couch to 5k and i have ALWAYS been self-conscious of my legs and HATED the way they look- I am SOOO inspired by this and know that when I'm pushing myself on that treadmill, my legs are hopefully changing as well- thanks for the encouragement! |

I'm on Week 5 of Couch to 5K but I've actually been doing it since December...I'm just not very good at it so despite my dedication I haven't been able to move on to 8 mins of straight jogging yet. :? Anyways, I have noticed a difference in my calves. They look muscular, it's great! :-D
However, I still have a LONG way to go on my thighs. Do you guys think eventually those will show some progress? They're huge! :( |

I am sure of it. In fact, my thighs are progressing much faster than my calves. I just started the C25K, but I had been walking 40 - 60 minutes a day since January 1st. I'm developing some impressive hamstrings and now my quads are showing improvement too. So not only are they getting trimmer, but the shape of them is improved, too. So stick with it, you will definitley see results. |

I don't remember how long it took, but I think my legs look better now :D
Climbing stairs is great for your legs too! I've been taking the stairs (8 floors) up and down twice a day and I can already feel that my thighs are firmer! |

Wanted to *bump* this up a little, because I remember this thread giving me inspiration. Thanks to all who had posted before .... I do like the way my legs are getting to look. And I know from past experience that running is the thing that slims my legs.
Well, this past weekend DH and I went out to dinner and I wore those longer, dressy shorts that are out now (I'm sure there's a name for them). With my shorter legs, I've always thought the shorts did nothing for me. So I wore my wedge heels with them, to give me some length. And of course, heels always make your calves look better. DH says "your legs are looking fantastic!" Gotta love him. All of this after incorporating running into my excercise.
 So exciting! |

Sounds like lots of people have found success with C25K!! That's how I got my start as well!
Does anybody do strength training for their legs, in addition to running? My calves are rocking, but as someone else mentioned, my thighs are a little jiggly still. My quads are tight, but the inner thigh and the spot right above my knee in the back could use some work. And I will NOT use the gyno machine at the gym- you know which one I mean! I always feel so vulgar, like I'm giving someone a free show! Any ideas? |
