3 sets of 10-12 crunches on a stability ball -- never the floor. If you can do more than 12 you need to add weight to your chest.

Let me just attest that this WORKS! Jams recommended this for me and it has worked noticeably for me in just a few weeks. :)

A stability ball (AKA Swiss Ball).

When you do crunches on a flat surface you limit your range of motion severely -- you can't extend backwards. This is harmful because a primary function of your abs, the Rectus Abdominis in particular, is to stabilize your spine in the event of an impact. When you train on a flat surface you are de-training your abs.

Furthermore, these are fast-twitch muscles that are intended to fire quickly (see above). When you do long slow sets with high reps you are training these muscles as slow-twitch muscles.
