Honestly, I have to say that the SBD is really a great diet, especially after i totally understood what this diet is doing to me (well in the first 2 months i just followed the guide lines without knowing exactly what its doing to my insulin and all of those and didnt read the book throughly until 2 weeks ago) but anyways, i realize after ppl go on this diet (cause I introduced it to many of my frds) we also notice a things that we didnt know before.
For me, the syptoms are really bad, I have IBS, I have to take beanos with ALL KINDS of veggies except for zucchini and ice-burg lettuce (other lettuce cause gas too =( ), beanos with beans, and i realize i am lactose intolerant, so i pretty much have to drink lactose free milk now and i can rarly eat cheese.
Some ppl say as u eat more and more of those veggies or put more dairy as part of ur daily meal plan, your body will eventually develope those enezmy itself again so sometimes i eat one or two (lil broccolis) before i take beanos but its still causing the pain, (it doesnt seem to be slowly developing the enezmys but I am only 21 years old....)
even after i take beanos, theres still gas in my stomach, but theres less pain when it goes thur my digestive system. Does anyone have any suggestion?
P.S latly, as i slowly try to figure out what kind of food is causing gasiness and the chornic pain I have, I realize I might not have the enezmy to digest wheat as well i get really gasy and bloated after a whole wheat pastry flour muffin (homemade).... this is a big question mark for me, I mean I love this diet, but really, I just cant live with beanos and Maloxx for life.
Needless to say, I also get bloated from sub sugar, even one lil sub sugar candy made my twins will cause my stomach to bloat, and splenda? haha, i cannot use them, so I have to bake and make allllll kinds of food i am making with no sweetaste except i can add fruits inside it. Sigh.... I know my digestive system doesnt sound too well but ><" ARGHHH HELP!!
I am waiting to see a specialist thur referral from my family doc, but they say I will have to wait for at least a month, meanwhile, I just want to know if anyone is suffering the same thing with me before and found a remedy, THANKS =) |

I feel your pain. I was recently diagnosed with IBS as well, and a lot of things started to make sense. Broccoli is a terrible thing for me, and whole wheat pasta is for the most part out of the question. I don't normally have problems with other sorts of whole wheat products (bread, pizza crusts, whatever). Sugar alcohols haven't treated me *too* badly, but let's just say I'm happier without them. Aspartame is instant nausea, and lately Splenda's getting to be that way as well. I'm limited to about half cup milk a day, Or Else. I'm still getting used to the things I can and can't eat. And when you're limited already by a diet... it just really sucks, doesn't it? :P
For your dairy issue, have you tried yogurt? I can eat yogurt with no problem, where milk and lots of cheeses make me sick. If you don't like yogurt or what you tried was a no-go, try other brands. They are not all created equal. Some are much, much more tart and acidic than others. For mainstream brands, I believe Yoplait's fat free is very good. Almost like sour cream in consistency, and very mild. I haven't had issue with it at all. If you have any Middle Eastern food shops near you, the imported brands they carry tend to be sweeter and creamier as well. It's trial and error.
If you get dried beans and soak them for 24 hrs +, it's supposed to release some of the... whatever it is that causes gas in lots of people. My sister does bags of kidney beans in huge batches, boils the hell out of them, drains well, and sticks them in the freezer.
For veggies, you might try cooking them in a different way? Frozen broccoli is much easier on my stomach than fresh stuff (raw or cooked) for some reason. Also, you might try sort of a tolerance thing. Instead of eating something with tons of X veggie in it, eat something with only a few bits and pieces in it. If that goes well, try adding a little more next time. See what happens. It could just be that you're sensitive to it and are eating too much at one time. |

Thank you dear, this is exactly wut i have been doing and this is why i found that I can only consume iceberg lettuce and zuchinni with no problem (in fact, zuchinni causes gas for me too but just no pain)... gosh, yeah I realize why I've always been diagnose for "ulcer" since i was 7 or 8, its because of all the food I eat, I am chinese so my diet before the SBD was mostly RICE and rice is the only thing that doesnt make gas, plus I dun eat veggies before, so now I am slowly starting to notice the pattern =P Beans, my gosh I not only soak them but i find lentlis is actually okay after u soak it 3 times in 15 mins. dun over soak it.
Milk i go for lactose free now. Yogurt, its sad that its sometimes ok sometimes not, and i find i must have to get probiotic ones otherwise i get stomach ache. (even probiotic ones sometimes gives me a headache too...lol, but i am not a big fan of yogurt, reason why i need dairy products because i cannot take calcium supplements it causes constipation. thats so sad)
well, I think i previously had problems with all those types of food except i just didnt know abt it cause I was eating all junk food and meat with rice all the time back then, and whenever i eat those stuff i just thought its either because i ate too fast or something. LOL now that i know i have to be careful with what i eat.
The SBD is good and bad in a way, at least its a good diet that makes us realize what was wrong in our system. |
