OA= Overeaters Annoymous
ACOA= Adult Child of an Alcoholic
COE= Compulsive Overeater
I have been in and out of the "rooms" since the late 1980's. I have been back and active in OA for the last 3 years. I do well for a while and then I stumble. I am so happy to have found SB~ It is so do-able for me~So far, it has helped me out...3 fold..mentally, physically and spiritually...When my head is in the food or when I have brain fog...I can't hear God talking to me...
My doctor suggested SB while back...Yet, I was not at that time willing to surrender my own will...WOW~ 'hind sight is 20/20...I guess it is true that for everything there is a time and a season!!!
Hope to connect with other "program" people who hang out on the "beach."
Peace,

I did have a lot of experience as I grew up - my mom's a recovering addict about to celebrate her 20 year anniversary. I attended Ala-teen meetings, as there weren't any "drug-specific" groups back then. Still quite familiar with the program and steps, though, so if you want to just chat and use "program-speak," feel free to do so!
Funny ... I just quoted the usual meeting-ender here ina post the other day ... "Keep coming back - it works if you work it!" Just as true here as there.
Best of luck!

LOL~THOSE SLOGANS ARE OFTEN...PERFECT...in all areas of life...Early on, I used to think that those slogans were rather corney...but now I just know that the simple-ness of them is and has always been just what I needed...My favorits are ..."If nothing changes~nothing changes!" & I have two choices I can #1 Face Everything And Recovery or #2 F' Everything And Run

That last one must be a newer one, but one I must surely use from now on. It's great!
There's a lot to be said for keeping it simple, even if it's a little corny. The serenity prayer applies here, too!
God, grant me the serenity (amidst all the chaos and madness in my life)
To accept the things I cannot change (heredity, the weather, etc.)
The courage to change the things I can (my health, my choices, MY LIFE)
and the wisdom to know the difference (most things are changeable, if in no other way than how I deal with the situation)
Thankfully, Mom's experiences steered me away from any drug and alcohol issues, but food has and still is a monumental challenge. This w.o.e. works so well when we exercise the choice to make better choices ... even if it's just for this meal, snack, etc. The more you do it, the more it becomes the "normal" way to deal with food, and the less it becomes a minute-by-minute process of making the better choice.
Wishing you all the best! Be strong, and check in for support whenever you need a boost.

I probably should have gone to ACOA when I was younger, but my life needed Al-Anon 24 hours a day. I like the Serenity Prayer. My favorite passage is "God give me the windom to know the difference." I also like KISS. I used to say this to my kids when they were little, and something happened that really upset them. I would say: "Think about this. Is this a Big Deal or a Little Deal?" This calmed them down, and they usually replied that it was a little deal. Nice to meet you guys!

I think that EVERYONE could somehow/someway benefit from the 12 steps programs. I started going to ACOA meetings in my mid 20's and then I found OA when I was 26 or 27. My food was clean for about 3 years back to back; I released a lot of weight going from 211# to 125#...but 50# came back when I took my will back after a BIG HURT.
I floated in and out of the "room" ever since.
:oops: I am an addictions counselor by profession, so for a lot of years...I felt HIPO-critical...letting my dis-ease rule my days while teaching others how to identify, accept & face their disease. 3 years ago I went back to OA and have been active in program...while not consistantly abstinent...
7-8 days ago...something clicked inside of me and I was able to totally accept that the refined sugars and carbs were kicking my butt and I needed to surrender...My partner's doctor suggested the BEACH to her and my doctor had suggested it a while back, but I was not willing to surrender my "fix" at that time. By God's grace I am will TODAY!!!
I hope that "we all" keep in touch...
Prayers for Peace,
Nicol
I like the Big deal or Little deal thing...I would add re limit setting "No deal"... |

When I was 34 my father died, a tremendous blow to me. My siblings, two of whom are still drinking and smoking pot, said they would make sure everying was done right.. I came down from upstate NY to help out. To my total dismay, they were already fighting over the Will, and my Dad not yet in the ground. One day, weeks later, I was driving around the Litchfield Hills, thinking, thinking thinking of how I was going to fix this. My heart was racing and I was in a panic attack. I was asking God to help me put things in order Then I wondered if He would do it right? Then, just like that, a thought, a huge thought came into my head. You guys know what it was. I was telling God what to do? I thought I could fix everything, with His help. The fact was, there was nothing I could do, except take care of myself and my children. God would take care of everything else. What a relief!
Always remember to turn it over! And don't take it back!

[b]Happy Birthday to my new friend...I'm truly blessed that you were born...
After reading your share...I realized something...When you said.."Turn it over & don't take it back." I remember something very wise that I heard in a meeting once....that has stuck with me for years...God will not do anything for us until we totally surrender to His will...He wont fix it until we lift up our hands and our hearts and humble ourselves and accept that we are not in charge...If we think we are in the drivers seat and that God is our co-piolet...WE ARE IN THE WRONG CAR!!!
Hope that your BIRTH-day was everything that you wanted it to be!!!
Prayers for Peace,

You women just don't know what a head start you have over most of these other dieters. Most of their posts say something like: I need more willpower, or I need to focus on myself, you know? Wrong! Everyone needs to focus on God. There are five addictions, and on this forum, the addiction is food, probably nicotine too. ( sub-classed under drugs)
These addictions are so powerful that there is not a chance in the world that anyone can do it alone. I mean , there have beenj drunks around for thousands of years, ever since man developed alcohol. Everything was tried for a cure, and ultimately failed. Religion was tried, isolation was tried, snake oil was tried! It wasn't until 1947 that two men from Akron, Ohio, after trying and failing many times, that God gave then the answer. Because of AA, the most hardened drunks have become sober and remained sober until the day they died. ( And surely went to heaven )
Well, Happy Sunday morning, sisters!
