Extreme Challenge

Welcome to the extreme challenge! We are your hostesses, Pookiebear and Kirian, and we are here to challenge you, pump you up and take you to places you’ve never been before. This is a 6 week challenge, starting on Monday, March 5th and ends on Sunday, April 15th – and it’s all about extremes. This isn’t for the weary or faint of heart. This is for the advanced fitness guru who wants to up their anty and is looking for a little competitive edge.

Requirements:
~ Have a journal on this site and record ALL FOOD EATEN.
~ Have at least 9 exercise sessions including 5 cardio, 3 strength training and 1 Yoga/Pilates/Stretching per week
~ Post before and after pictures

Points:
~ Completing an exercise session – 5 points Exercise sessions are different than exercise days. For example, you can do a cardio session and also a strength training session all in one day. So, in all reality, you only have to exercise 5 days/week, as long as you get all your sessions in.
~ Posting your food in your journal – 1 point per day
~ Drinking half of your body weight in ounces per day (up to 120 oz.) – 1 point (For example, I’m around 130 pounds. So I would need to drink 65 oz. per day to qualify.)
~ Each inch lost by the end of the challenge – 1 point
~ Posting and trying one new recipe each week – 6 points To qualify for this, you need to find a new recipe to try and post the recipe in this thread and let us know how you liked it.

Note: No points for eating on the beach. Eat whatever you wish – you just have to record it in your journal. ;)

A perfect week will be 65 Points. There will be no bonus points for this challenge.

Teams
Everyone will be divided into two teams. I will be the team captain of one and Kirian will be the team captain for the other. There will also be a chat thread for each team. You are also encouraged to check on your teammate’s journals to encourage them – and also “spy” on your competitors in their journals as well.

Say Cheese!
We will be taking before and after pictures for this challenge! :D Please take a before picture within 3 days of the start of this challenge and post in the Pictures section of this forum right here: http://www.southbeach-diet-plan.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=868989#868989
Within 3 days of the end of the challenge, please post an after picture and post IN THE SAME post you originally put your before picture in.

Points Only Thread
There will be a thread that will be a sticky at the top of the exercise forum called “Points Only Thread”. Here is where you post ONE POST and come back and edit your points through the duration of the challenge. You can find that thread here: http://www.southbeach-diet-plan.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=73135 and just follow the directions in the very first post.

Measurements
On the first day of the challenge, we’re all going to take our measurements. Please take your measurements of the following places so we’re all on the same page:

• Bust: Measure around the chest right at the nipple line, but don't pull the tape too tight.
• Chest: Measure just under your bust
• Waist: Measure a half-inch above your belly button or at the smallest part of your waist
• Hips: Place tape measure around the biggest part of your hips
• Thighs: Measure around the biggest part of each thigh
• Calves: Measure around the largest part of each calf
• Upper arm: Measure around the largest part of each arm above the elbow
• Forearm: Measure around the largest part of the arm below the elbow.

Taken from: http://exercise.about.com/od/weightloss/a/weightlosstrack_2.htm

At the end of the challenge, you will get one point for every inch lost. So when you measure yourself on the last day, be exact. Say you lost 10.5 inches. You will get 10.5 points. :) Easy enough, right?

The Winners
The points will be counted by myself and Kirian and will be posted as a team average. We will give you a weekly update in this thread after everyone has posted their updates. The winning team will be invited to send me their email address and I will email them a winning certificate, hand made with love, by me. :D

Can I quit?
No quitters! If you quit this challenge, you will be on probation and will not be allowed to enter the next challenge. Please don’t sign up if you are not willing to finish all 6 weeks.

If you can answer “yes” to the following questions – we need you! Please sign up by a post stating you accept the challenge.

~ Do you already do at least 5 sessions of either cardio and/or strength training per week?
~ Are you willing to be extreme and dedicate 6 weeks to health and fitness for yourself?
~ Have you read this entire post and are more than willing to accept ALL the requirements?

Good luck to all! And if you have any questions, please feel free to ask!

Hi
a couple of question before commiting. Can extre Pilates reformer sessions (besides the one required) count as strength? (I am currently training for my Pilates certification, and that's almost all the strngth I do, and it is really tough using the reformer)

If you do not have a digital camera, is it OK not to post pictures?
I will submit measurements, weight and that stuff
I really do not ant to loose much weight, I just want the challenge.

I am in... life is nuts right now but it will be MUCH better in a week. Plus the yoga/pilates will break up any chance for an exercise rut.

What counts as cardio, my dear? I just started doing 10 minutes on the stairs because apparently I can't do 20. LOL! It gets my heart rate up and I just started doing it before doing weights. Good enough? I'm going to build on that 10 minutes, so maybe I'll meet whatever standards by March 5, but I've learned not to push it.

I would love to do this one, although my before and after pics might look a little different than everyone else's, as I just found out that I am pregnant. Is that OK to not lose anything, but rather gain? (I understand I won't get the points for inches lost, I only hope my team does.)

p.s. I understand () if you would rather not have me in my condition on this challenge.

Hello all! Glad to see all the challengers! :D

To answer some questions...

Lupe - I understand that you're working towards your Pilates certification and that's awesome! So are you able to do any strength training? The purpose of this challenge is to have a balanced workout between cardio, strength training and stretching. So, you can do cardio and Pilates... but are you able to do some simple weight lifting as well? The thing is, if I tell you that you can only do Pilates and cardio - others might think that they can only do Pilates and Cardio as well - and that's kind of veering from the purpose of the challenge.

And, you don't have to post your weight - that's the beauty of this challenge. :D It's not about losing weight. It's about losing inches, losing fat and gaining muscle. :) That will benefit you considering you're wanting to look "longer and leaner" with Pilates. ;)

Do you have a friend's camera you could borrow?

Cyster - A cardio session is anything you want it to be - that is considered an actual exercise and is challenging to you. If you can do 10 min. on the stairs, then that's the level you're at. Some days, I don't feel good, and 30 min. is all I can do, so that's what I do. Other days, it's 1 1/2 hours. It's all a matter of what you're able to do at that time. However cardio does NOT mean: House cleaning, gardening, grocery shopping, etc. Just like strength training does not mean "heavy lifting" (*cough* of groceries) and things like that. This is a challenge - so whatever exercise-wise is challenging to you - do that. :) Sound good?

mnmenglish - I would like you to do this challenge too! However, are you able to commit to 9 exercise sessions/week? You don't know how you'll feel tomorrow or 2 weeks or 6 weeks from now, ya know? And the purpose of this IS to lose inches... to lose body fat and gain some muscle! :) I just don't think that's your goal right now. You're not really looking to "up your anty", right? You're looking to stay healthy and exercise and have a great pregnancy! :D Which, we all want for you! Would you like to be the leader of the cheer squad?!? You could totally do the challenge along with us, post in all chat threads, read journals and have people read yours and do everything except the measuring part ;) and the points aspect. That way, we can help "keep you in line" on your level and you can cheer us all on. What do you think about that?

So as our first thing to chat about - how about we start with a question ~ Why did you join an extreme challenge and what is your one goal that you want to achieve after 6 weeks?

My goal is to lose body fat and gain muscle/lost inches in it's place. :) It's not required in this challenge, but I will be getting my body fat percent measured at the beginning and the end of this challenge. My goal is to see ANY kind of loss! :D

Who's next!?

My goal is an easy one...
To be less stressed and more happy for my family. Working out is "me" time and it relieves stress.
(plus I want to wear tanktops and not hit someone in the face with the under arm flab!!! )

Pookie ~ That is a great idea! I would love to be a cheerleader! (I can fulfill my high school dream, since I never made it 15 years ago) I don't know why I didn't think of that first. I just need a way to be involved so as long as someone will keep me accountable for all the same stuff as each of the participants, I'm in.

I will personally check in on you throughout the challenge! :D Along with anyone else who would like to as well! Maybe on the first day of the challenge (or now, if you'd like?) you can post your goals for those 6 weeks so I can keep you accountable? :)
