| I was wondering I take brith control pills and I am starting the diet MOnday will that affect them. Why I ask since I have been on them I have gained 25 pounds I would love to weigh somewhere in the 120-135 instead of the 170-180 range. :D |

I've been taking bc pills for over 8 years now and I did gain a whole heap of weight...about 50 lbs. over the course of 8 years. I have endometriosis so it's necessary that I take them. That being said, I've lost most of the weight that I've put on since first taking them by doing South Beach.
P.S.- No, SB does not affect the effectiveness of bc pills. |

I have been on depo...for about 3 years now... and everyone said i would gain a ton of weight...
i actually lost weight...*shrug*
everything efects everyone differently...

| I never gained while on the pill but I had 1 depo shot and gained 40 pounds in 5 months. I couldn't stop the weight gain no matter what I did and my doc ended up putting me on Phentermine to try to counteract it. It helped and I started losing weight after the depo was completely out of my system (which usually takes about 8 months even though it only works as bc for 3). I'm on Yasmin which studies have shown that women have lost weight on this pill over all others. I get no water retention either whereas with ortho I gained 4 pounds of water weight each month. |

| i gained about 15 pounds on ortho tricyclinLo over about 9 months so i went off it before i started this diet. i didn't want anything to hinder me. i am going to try yasmin. |

| This is a good topic to discuss in a forum with so many women. It's a much broader-based sampling than I'd ever get from talking with just my friends about heir birth control experiences! Thanks for the info ladies! I was planning on Depo as my next option... now I'm rethinking things. |

| The first time I was on Depo no weight gain, but I missed one shot and had to wait till I got my period to get it again. (long wait) anyway the second time I gained 25 lbs in 3 months. The sad part is I was already heavy and now just heavier. I have stopped the depo and hoping I can start losing weight now instead of gaining. I have about 100 lbs to lose so it will be a while but........ :D |

It doesn't affect the effectiveness, however I started spotting today, when my period isn't due until the 21st :shock: Looked it up and this is an issue with a lot of women who are on the pill. Dr. A is looking into why it affects us.
When I called my OBGYN, she told me that it's such a change for people's body to take that it will throw us off. |

| I was on birth control pills and I gained a lot of weight. I never had a scale so I could not tell you how much but I was a size 10 and went to a size 12/13. Then after going off the pills I lost most of it to at least a size 11. Then I went on depo (big mistake) and gained over the course of two injections to a size 14; which I had never been in my entire life. When I did weight myself after waiting for my body to get back to normal with period and all I was 190. (I will never do depo again because for me it has caused issues with trying to conceive) I went on a diet where I watched my calories and fat and excercized along with diet pills and lost 40 pounds in the course of 6 months which I was so proud of. Then I moved back home and gained it all back to 180 and came to find south beach which I am happy with and so far I have lost only 5 pounds and now I am on phase 2 as of today and I hope by 6 months I am down to 125 with a total of 50 pounds to lose. . Anyway, no diet will effect your birth control only antibiotics will on the pill. It was nice to share real life with you all. |

There are so many different birth control pills out thre nowadays, you should be able to find one that has minimal side effects (including weight gain) for yourself.
Low dose pills (Yasmin, Alesse, Mircette) will be less likely to cause weight gain, because they contain less hormones. But different people will react differently to various BCPs.
I take Alesse continuously to control endometriosis. It hasn't affected my weight at all. When I first started taking BCPs when I was diagnosed with endometriosis, I didn't gain any weight at the time. All my weight gain occurred when I was laid up due to two surgeries within the span of 6 months - first foot surgery to remove a neuroma in my left foot, and then a laparoscopy to remove endometriosis implants.
If the BCP you are taking is causing you to gain weight, talk to your GP or OB/GYN about switching to another pill. You should be able to find one that works for you without causing weight gain. |

| I started Yasmin about 6 weeks or so ago and it hasn't effected me a bit. Actually I lost a few pounds when I started because it made me feel a little sick to my stomach for the first week or so, but after that it went away. No side effects so far ... I was on Levlen for 11 years prior and went off last year .. now back on again but to Yasmin. So far so good! |

| Did anyone loose weight when they went off their BC? My fiance had to stop her BC pills due to high blood pressure. I'm wondering if she should expect to drop a little "BC" weight? |
