i'm going to test a chicken-only (skinless, of course) for a week and see how it goes. the only thing i'm going to consume is (skinless) steamed-chicken and of course water. i've heard that (skiness) chicken is very low in fat and carb-free, so i will be expecting nice results. what do the rest of you think?
(now, before you guys go on about how a anything-only diet is bad for you cause you're not getting any nutrients from other foods blah blah, remember this is only for a week, as i am tired of my current diet and want to explore something different... only for a week) |

I've actually heard of it, its called the stripper diet. You'll most likely feel very lethargic and yucky, and you'll binge when its over.
Sorry to sound harsh, I just don't see the point. |

i read your journal link, and you've mentioned that you run/ran 3-miles a day? wow, that is one of my goals for the future, to be able to run 3 miles every morning.
when you run/ran your 3 miles, did you do it non-stop? (not stopping for even a second) and was/is your pace a faster pace or slower/relaxed jogging pace?
currently i can run a mile non-stop @ 7mph (according to my treadmill) and my goal is to be able to do that for 3 miles non-stop ( @ at least 7mph) |

| You should check out the runners thread in the exercise forum. It took me about a month to run 3 miles straight w/o stopping but thats like running 4 days out of the week. I would run about 1 min then walk for 2 min and so on until I can run 3 miles w/o stopping. It just takes persistance! |

yeah don't have to worry about my binging, as i have lost count on the many time i have in the past, all with sad results, so i know i will not do that anymore... and haven't for months.
the point is to lose-weight fast(er), no?
but no worries, only for a week! |

| It won't work and it will only make your metabolism slower. Trust me I have tried almost everything. The best way to lose weight is just to eat healthy w/sensible portions and exercise daily but you have to make it a life commitment. Don't do any of those fads they just don't work and it will be even worse. |

what do i think?
i think it's a stupid idea.
while willpower is important you have to give yourself a basis to be strong.
If you have a history of binging, i really really really think this is a stupid idea. |

The lost weight will just be water weight, which will all come back once you eat normally again. What's the point?
SB p1 is better-- you won't lose as much water weight because you still eat carbs, and so there is less water weight to bring back once you move to p2. And it helps with cravings without denying yourself of entire food groups.
I like chicken way too much to get sick of it by only eating chicken for a whole week. I'm with Toese! |

| Uck. Can't imagine volunteering to eat only one thing for a week. I love my chicken..want to keep it that way! Also don't want it palin with water..want Chicken Sybil like I had tonight. Yum. Don't forget..no diet that depends on eating in a way that is unnatural and unappealing will keep the wt. off. Sooner or later you go back to eating variety, and crash and burn. |

oh god forbid someone tries something different.
You know just because some people praise SBD and think its the greatest thing in the world since sliced bread does not mean every other idea people might have is stupid.
This is just ignorant!!!!!
I think a better choice of words could have been chosen.
I can eat chicken every day for a month and will not get sick of it. So there, a little different opinion.
superman just try it out and let us know how it goes. GOOD LUCK! |

I like SBD. It suits me fine. Is it the only healthy way of life out there? Hell no. Does my admiration for this WOL make eating one food only for a long time any less stupid an idea? Nope.
I wish you all the luck in the world with it, I really do. But I think you will discover it's a HORRIBLE idea. Try this on for "ignorance":
Your body fuels itself off of carbs. In the absence of those, it does nasty things - for example, throwing your body into ketosis (which is a starvation-like physiological state) or slow your metabolism to a crawl in an attempt to save you from, well, yourself. The principal of the Atkins diet is that you're eating large numbers of calories and therefore your body begrudginly uses those instead of molecularly easy to bust carbs.
Eating low-fat chicken? Ok, it pumps you full of enough protein that you probably won't start breaking down smooth-muscle tissue, but it will bring your normal metabolism to a grinding screeching halt. You will also be getting no nutritional value vitamin-wise unless you're on every mutlivitamin and oil complex known to science. This can have beautiful side effects ranging from dull complexion to weakening of bone structure (when you're not getting calcium your body leeches calcium from wherever it can find it, like your femur.)
I could keep rambling on and on until my fingers fall off from typing but either the chicken-eaters in the audience will listen or they won't. I'm guessing the latter. I do hope that you realize the scientific shortcomings of this idea and quit before you do something you REALLY regret (like binging majorly.) I sympathize with your desire to lose lots of weight fast -we all do - but you can't rush your body or the results will not be pretty. Trust me. :? |

| Honestly any "dietary" program that excludes two of the three major macronutrients (fats and carbs in this case) is not only stupid but dangerous. There are reasons they are called "essential fatty acids" and carbohydrates are just as important and essential to not just your health but your basic survival. This is just a really bad idea on a lot of different levels that have nothing to do with SBD. |

I think this is really important. My fear for you, superman, is that once this diet ends (because it WILL end) that you will gain the weight back quickly, become depressed and revert to old habits.
You've had a lot of negative responses to this idea and I must also say I don't think it's a good idea. I don't think it's a good idea to limit our bodies to just one thing. There is no one perfect food that contains all the nutrients our bodies need.
Putting one more yo-yo diet under your belt may make you 5 lbs heavier than when you started. It's happened to me each and every time. :(
Good luck whatever you decide to do! |
