I am on ph2 week 3, and have lost a total of #8 so far. I am eating great!! My problem is lately (and aunt flo is currently visiting) I fall asleep around 6 and can't get up till the next am. I feel like all I'm doing is sleeping. I have been of the last 4 nights, and I do work overnights!! Any ideas would sure be appreciated....I hate being so darn tired and not accomplishing anything on my days off from work!!

same here, since i have been on this diet, i don't know why, lack of energy in the afternoons even I have enough sleep the night before. It just sucks.

I dun thinkkit has anything to do with not enough carbs because we are suppose to have enough carbs with the SBD food list so I really wonder why.....

Ditto..Im in P2 as well (started SBD 1/15/07) and I am STILL waiting for that "energy" you are supposed to get. After reading the book and this board, the general concensus seems to be after P1, you get more energy, feel better, etc. Well NONE of this has happened for me yet. I still feel like crap (dont feel "healthier" at all) and I am always tired. I could go to bed at 8 or at 11 and still cannot get up in the morning and I feel like I am dragging all day. I am very disappointed because I really thought that this WOE would make me feel better and healthier. Oh well, I guess I'll keep waiting. I really want to start excercising but with being tired all the time and lack of energy makes it almost impossible to start.
I welcome any comments or suggestions!

i know this might sound weird, but exercise can make you more energized! when i began p2 i wasnt really exercising regularly, and felt the way you all do. i began to exercise 6 days a week at the beginning of january and feel so much better! not to say you need to do it that much though. but i understand its hard to get motivated when you feel so blah, but maybe start with something small and then as you get more energy work up to something a little more difficult? i started exercising probably 2 days a week for 30 min on my elliptical, and slowly worked up to 6 days for 40 min, and some core and arm work every other day. you just have to find what works for you.

also, at my TOM, im always tired, no matter what!

what's your water intake?

My water intake is not good at the moment. Ive always had a hard time drinking alot of water in the winter. Once the weather starts warming up, I have NO problem drinking it. I will say that ALL I drink IS water (other than my 2 cups of coffee in the AM)..but it's probably only about 4 glasses a day.

I think this really is something I need, I've hated excersicing all my life but I think I need to start putting in some effort to get some good energy =)

I get tired during TOM as well. I hope that's it for you, Mom, and that you start feeling better soon. Maybe if you don't you could post your meals?

How about you, Ozzychick? I'm not sure if you're getting enough carbs. I saw that during p1 you were certain that you were because you were following the menus in the book, but they actually aren't that great of an example. They don't include any dairy, and very few beans. The most recent recommendations include 2 servings of both each day.

It doesn't look like you're really following the plan, though-- you posted something in the p2 area about not eating/wanting carbs. There's a good chance that this is tied up in not fueling your body properly.

Or there could be something else going on with any one of you, such as low iron. It might be time for a checkup.

Hi Kim, thanks for the reply. I am sure that I am getting enough carbs. I do eat lots of beans and make sure I have my 2 servings of dairy each day. Since I started P2 i have introduced fruit a couple times a week and even wheat english muffins. I do feel confident that I am eating enough. (just probably not drinking enough H20 tho!)
Now about that TOM thing.,..yes I agree I DO get extra tired right before, but this 'tiredness' has been going on for quite some time, not just "that" time. As far as a check up, I had one before I started on SBD. My main reason for going on SB was because my doctor recommended it because my triglycerides were high and heart disease and diabetes run in my family. I am also overweight, so I figured I'd kill 2 birds w/ one stone..eat healthier to lower my #'s and lose this unwanted baggage ;)

One other thing I'd like to mention and wondered if any of you have experienced this as well. The week before TOM, I get FAMISHED..always have and would eat anything and everything all day long. Well, I am "due" later this week, and boy oh boy am I hungry ALL day. I have been really good though, and havent cheated. What I have been doing is eating alot more, but of stuff I CAN have on this diet. Is that ok to do ? Have any of you done this as well? Granted, I havent lost anymore weight this past week...even gained a pound back, but I figured if I at least eat alot of "healthy" stuff to ease the hunger, its better than eating a crapload of chocolate or french fries!!

Thanks for listening..! I love this board!

I'm still not sure if you're getting enough on p2-- dairy is now 2-3 cups daily. "Beans" means legumes like black beans and chickpeas, and not green beans (although they are very nice, too); sometimes people get confused about that, so I thought I'd pop that in there just in case.

I don't know how long you've been on p2, but by week 2, people should be up to a fruit and a grain every single day. By week 4, the general recommendation is 2 of each every day (except for the very small or very inactive people, IMO). If you're only having fruit or grain occasionally, that isn't really p2 yet.

I think it's okay to eat a little more at "that time"-- I've read that the metabolism can actually speed up (think of how much is going on in there), so eating a little more is probably appropriate.

Then there's the water weight gain that most of us get, and it can mask what's really going on with the fat loss: an extra pound of water will hide that lost pound of fat, for example.

i would also follow the advice of kim about low iron. i have low iron, as do many young women, and since i started taking supplements i have felt alot better. but i got bloodwork done and talked with my doctor before beginning supplementation.

If the tiredness keeps up, and you're sure you're getting ample carbs for week 4 or 5 in phase 2, and plenty of water, see your Dr. Anemia, mono, and a lot of other issues can cause extreme fatigue. It isn't always diet related.
