I tried it, and lost weight.... but I think it's because there is the tendancy to eat less carbs because you can't eat anything other than vegetables with them.

I tried it when it first came out (years ago) and lost 12 lbs. I dug out the book / tapes and looked them over prior to starting the SBD last month. Many of her recipes and ideas are not that far from SBD and can be incorporated. I found the hardest thing on Somersize was the "timing" of foods...can't have fruit unless its an hour before this, or 2 hours after that. too much to think about.

I have SSed since last fall and lost 10 pounds. I love the food, love Somersweet, and hate the food combining. I never understood how she can sing the praises of Scwarzbian (can't spell that, sorry) when she CLEARLY says she doesn't agree with food combining and recommends eating "balanced" meals.

I'm not sure if it was all the constant sweets (with SS or Splenda) or the high fat creams that did me in, but I just stopped losing.

I tried Somersizing about 5 years ago and lost 40lbs! It was great for me. I hated the food combining, but it soon became second nature.

Over the past year I had faltered away a bit from it. When I tried to Somersize again this past Jan, I started to gain weight! I tried until last week, and decided enough was enough!

My twin does SBD, so I though I'd give it a try. It's a MUCH easier program, and there seems to be a lot more you can eat! I weigh in tonight, but my clothes all feel looser.

I figure there are hundreds of diets/way of life - you just need to find the one that works for you!

Good luck! :D

I lost 25 lbs on my first two and a half months on Phase 1 of Suzanne (without exercising).
Over the past year, I have been able to maintain the weight on Phase 2, but there were many cheat times and I put 15 pounds back on.

I agree that it's hard to do the food combining (there are times after dinner when you just want a piece of fruit), but I did love that I could eat most fruits.

My bf lost 30 on SBD so I am now doing a combo of SBD and Suzanne, as long as you aren't eating carbs or nuts (the Suzanne way), you can have higher fat foods on SBD and still lose weight.

So far, I've lost 5 pounds in a week on Phase 1 of SBD with a little Suzanne mixed in..............

I did this for a while and liked it. I don't understand how the Sommerized diet and the SBD can be so contradictory about eating carbs though. Sommerized says that you will loose weight by eating the healthy carbs with no fat. SBD says that it is better if you make a point to eat some fat with bread. Which one is right??? :?:

I liked it. Lost about 30 lbs on it but couldn't stick to the food combining that makes 0 sense to me....I like to have a little whole grain toast with my eggs, and really missed the legumes with a little fat in it. I like SB. It seems to make more sense and it was desgined by a doctor. I like this idea. It also conforms more with Dr. Schwarzbeins theories and she contradicted Somersize food combining. Whatever works...and I know that Somersize works for alot of people.

I too used to Somersize and I was wondering the same thing yesterday. Anyone have any insights?

Dr. Schwarzbein, a leading Santa Barbara Endocronologist and Suzanne's doctor, does not support Suzanne's food combining theory. And in Dr. S's 2 books, she states that one should have a Pro/Fat/good Carb with every meal for healthy eating........

From experience, I found that Suzanne's WOE can be very heavy into fats, like Atkins, as she uses alot of butter, full fat cream, and cheeses, etc. in her recipes, so from what I learned from reading her books is that she doesn't want to take the chance of adding even good carbs to Pro/fat meals because even good carbs cause a moderate rise in blood sugar and she doesn't want to take the chance of triggering an insulin response and having the whole meal (which is usually pretty fat laden) carried to the fat cells and stored as fat.....thus causing a weight gain. Her theory in a nutshell, I think. Maybe someone else has a better insight....I do know that when I was on her WOE, and stuck with it strictly, it worked for me....But I do like this WOE much better and find it much healthier.

What I find humorous, is in Suzanne's newest book, she is now advocating ADDING good carbs to breakfast, lunch and dinner meals to break what she calls "weight stalls." Go figure.......

I somersized for a long time and had great success. I changed to SBD because I just felt there were too many fat-laden meals with somersizing. I realize you don't have to eat them but it was just too tempting. I give Somers credit for being one of the first to try to get people off sugar and into whole grains.
