So, what do you all think of the show so far? My thoughts: kind of boring and sad.

What do you think of Paula? She seriously has some kind of medical, drug, or alcohol problem :( . Here is a link to a videoclip from an interview she did on a news show: http://www.themaxfm.com/Article.asp?PT=Lambert+and+Lindsey+Blog&id=334298

That was unreal!

About the show itself: why are all the judges in agreement? If they are all going to agree, why do they need four judges? I thought the funniest part was when Simon was egging the guy on to challenge Randy's criticism of him.

Just wanted to start a discussion :D .

Paula was definitly out of it. She should start watching herself on tv. She looked like a mess.

I've never really watched American Idol ~ a few episodes here and there. And I've never, never, never watched the tryouts. I get extremely embarassed for the people who obviously can't sing ~ but boy, they sure think they can. I have to walk away. On the one hand, kudos to them for having the guts to do it. I know I never could. But on the other hand ~ I just can't watch. I usually end up covering my ears and turning away. Last night, I did brave a few of the bad ones. I also enjoyed Simon egging on the vocal coach about Randy. Then there was the Wizard of Oz girl, the boy who likes to juggle and dance, ~ oh and the last one who auditioned ~ the "biggest idol fan, ever". I did make it through those.

It's also sad to think that other people will encourage someone who obviously doesn't have talent...or at least not enough talent for the show (I know, some do improve with the coaching they get but still  ). For instance, my dd sings in our area youth choir. I will compliment her on her singing. Is she American Idol quality? No. Are ANY of the kids from her youth choir (large municipal city area)? No. There are some very good singers...but not professional quality IMO.

I had seen that Paula interview on YouTube... Isn't that sick? She is so cracked out on pain pills and booze that she can barely sit up straight! I love the expressions on the newscasters faces...

There's another version of this interview where it shows a little bit more at the beginning... It's pretty funny too.

How sad...she is messed up on something. I have *heard* that she does drink alot and is a lot of pain, but I never saw the footage to back these claims. But something was going in that interview.

Anyhow, the show last night didnt impress me to much. No one wow'ed me.

Oh, that IS AWFUL! That version is even worse! :(

I really hope they turn up some great talent...I loved (and still do) Chris Daughtry and was impressed by many of the others.

Wow that interview is so bad . . .

I wasn't impressed with Season 6 premeire at all. It's the same thing over again, but they showed too many of the bad acts and not enough of the talent. I'm actually getting bored of seeing the bad acts . . it's just not funny to me. It's sad in a huge way. And a lot of those people are probably thinking they will make fun of the interview process by being way out there so they can be on tv, which is a waste of time to me. I do watch the interviews so I can see the good talent, so most of yesterday's show was just a waste of 2 hours. I'm sure tonight will be the same since they said Seattle was worse. I'm probably going to DVR the show and just skip through all of it to watch the talent. I just love the main show when we get to see all the great singers on stage.

wow - Paula looked awful! I had heard a lot of things too about her being on a lot of pain meds, but she is definately acting a little crazy in these interviews!

Normally I like watching American Idol, especially as the finalists are selected and the real part of the show. I watched most of it last season and I too DVR it and just watch the performances and skip over all of the rest.

I haven't yet watched yesterdays show, but will watch it tonight. I am a couple hours from Seattle, so interested in seeing how bad everyone really is :)

I agree with Yosh, the bad acts are enough, why do they have to do so many. I'm starting to get real bored with this also. I didn't bother with it last night. My husband & I decided to wait till they get to the talent, maybe the final 12 to start watching and skip all the pre-circus rounds.

I tried to watch last night, but had to turn it off. I really felt bad for her.

Last night (Seattle), I saw the first person that I REALLY think has talent...the 16 year old girl Jordan. She was amazing!

I thought Paula didn't seem as bad. She could actually speak during this episode. She did have trouble putting her fingers together during one part though :( . She tried to touch her index finger to the other...and missed :( . Maybe that's why they didn't have a 4th judge...since she was doing better.

Randy is being so mean this season!

I love this part of the show! LOL! It cracks me up! But the judges are pretty mean this year. I like to watch the bad acts WITHOUT all the criticism. I didn't like it when Simon was egging Randy on. I thought that was just cruel.

And I agree that you have to blame a little of the "bad" on the supporters who let them go through.

One girl made me think. The girl dressed all in black who had lessons for 10 years and said basically in ten years no one had told her she was awful. The judges said that people were just taking her money. I teach flute lessons and it made me second myself. I tell ALL my students "that was great" or whatever compliment they deserved based only on their own past history. For instance, if one of my really awful students plays a high note for the first time, I think she deserves a compliment! I hope I don't set these students up for a bad audition! LOL! But I don't feel like I take their money. For my students, at least, some of them are taking lessons just to keep afloat in band.

I just think that if there are seriously people out there who audition so badly that the judges should show a little more professionalism while listening. At least cut them off earlier, or sit through without cracking up and hiding under the desk . . . it's so sad that they have to use the material for tv ratings.

Just watched Seattle. DH was cracking up at first, and by the end we felt so bad for those who really thought they had a chance. Let them go down with their head held high, instead of all the ridiculing on tv.

I had real criticism when I took piano. My teacher would tell me if something sounded awful and would make me tape myself. And she would compliment me on what I did well. That's how she put out the most pianists who won local and state competitions. It's much more helpful if you steer people in the right direction.

Jordin was a very good singer on the other hand! I hope that we get to hear more auditions like that. There are too many golden ticket auditions that they are not showing.
