I agree i'm on day 7 and have lost one pound and am hungry and frustrated. I thought too that this might not be the right diet for me. |

I am glad to see I am not alone. I actually searched under " not losing weight" and here I am. Anyways I am on day 13 Phase one and I am almost beginning to think there is something wrong with the scale! Afterall I have really not had any bread, rice etc for almost 2 weeks and I do not think I have lost anything!
I have felt awful before, tired and spacey , but I am feeling better now. Is is portion size, or am I doing something that I am not supposed to do without knowing it. Also I read somewhere that peri-menipausal women may have a more difficult time losing due to hormaonal changes. I admit we went out to dinner but I stayed on the diet although I did eat a lot of seafood. ( It was an all you can eat buffet!) I ate the salmon and the crab legs and green beans. I was happy that I did so well, but maybe not?
I did cheat a couple of times and have a tiny bit of sugar in my coffee and yes I did have coffe but a lot of people do. I ate a third of a chocolate biscotti one day. It was calling my name. :) I need to exercise more but I have been trying to walk. I just can't when I work my 10 shift plus 2 hours of commutting. I am lucky to get out of bed in time to go back to work on those days but I was pretty active at work. I have been using the stairs not the elevator and I do a fair amount of running around.
Still I am looking forward to stage 2. I think it will be easier to eat with more variety and looking forward to some whole grain bread. Perhaps if I up my exercising it will help. I used to eat cookies and all kind of stuff at work and I have not so I am amazed that I am not losing. After the last two weeks which have been hard for me, I am not about to give up now, when I can be getting to the good stuff.
It is very frustrating though. |

Hi all,
I saw above it was posted about not having to have portion control. Actually,I think the book meant that you don't have to measure your food out on a scale or keep track of every ounce.
As with any diet or lifestyle change, portion control is an integral part of success. You might only be eating cheese, but eat 2000 calories worth during the day, for example. SBD doesn't allow you to starve yourself, but I don't think you will see great results without moderation.
I would head over to www.fitday.com, put in everything you ate, and see if maybe you are not burning the calories you are eating.
Best of luck to you all! |

Hi everyone!
I saw this site on Friday, April 30th, but have not had the nerve to write until today. I am on Day 1 of Phase 2. The only time I cheated was on Day 14 of Phase 1, I had two glasses of red wine. I lost 4 pounds the first four days, and then only 1 pound on day 8. After that I gained 2-3 pounds, but finally lost it again by the end of the week. I guess it is bad to be compulsive with the scale.
I too have been frustrated with the book. I guess we need to be reminded what is a portion. Is it one cup of beans, and 6oz of chicken, or is that too much? What about caffiene. He says you can have 1-2 cups, but in the meal plans only mentions decaf.
I am glad to be able to see how others are doing on this diet. I think we all go through the fear that we are the only person that is not going to be able to lose on this diet.

I am thinking that perhaps the idea about portion size is correct. Maybe I am eating too much without realizing it. I visited the website recommended above. Very good for calculating. Sometimes it helps keeping track of what you eat, I think. At least you know what you are doing.
I added bread ( whole grain lo carb) today and I feel better. Still I wonder how can eating a lot of lettuce add so much weight??? Anyways phase one was a failure as far as the weight loss dept for me. Starting phase two, I am happy I can eat Kashi again instead of eggs. I am sick of eggs and I think the high fiber cereal worked the last time I was on a diet (WW lost 20 lb but backslid) Still going to keep to the diet and watch the portion sizes better. I would not want to repeat phase one and probably wouold not. |

| Intersting titbit - saw a show on the food channel about a lady that was on SBD and lost VERY little weight in the first 2 weeks on PH1 but when she added some good carbs PH2 it started to shed off of her - so hang in there! |

| Thanks for the info Bamboli. I am hopeful that phase two will be better and I will lose weight just like that lady in the post above. At least I am feeling better. I no longer have that awful tired feeling I had in Phase 1. My skin looks and feels better perhaps because of all the water and veggies. I had cereal for breakfast with skim milk and it was like a treat to me. I also ate a strawberry and thought that I had died and gone to heaven. In retrospect I never believed that eggs everyday is good for you so maybe I somehow subconciously sabotaged myself. Who knows. I will give it another week and see what happends. |

I am so happy I found all of you. I am on P1 day 7 and only 3lbs. On day 5 it was 4.5 so I don't understand. I have not cheated. I know that we are suppose to eat low fat or fat free cheese, but I have to eat out alot due to my school and work schedule. I am talking about shredded cheese on a salad. I am not eating gobs of it so I don't understand. I also wanted to know if anyone started around 140. I would like to know how your progressing.
Thanks a bunch,

So glad I am here also. I was afraid to look at the scale today and I have not been progressing. For the first time, I kind of ate badly. I ate a regular burrito with real sour cream because I was mad that nobody else here would eat them. After that I had a chocolate dipped strawberry just for the heck of it.
That was really mature. I guess I should know better than to try and push healthy food down my kid's throats. I should just let them eat pizza everyday. Turns out they wont' eat beans in a burrito. And I thought I was being so clever using the same stuffing for theirs and mine.
Well tomorrow is another day. And I feel much more hopeful now that I can eat bread and cereal. I also have a Southbeach meatloaf that I froze into portions that they also would not eat. I will not have to cook for a long time. I am kind of mad about this but it is my own fault to get so into it that I try and make evrybody else here eat my food. |

| started P2 , 6 lb wgt loss on phase 1, but that's better than continuing to gain . If I manage 1lb a week i'll be happy. It took 23 years to gain 40 lbs, so 40 weeks to lose it is not unresonabale ...and thanks to the above post for the fit...website .Makes me moore accountable.good luck all |

I am on day 11 of Phase 1. I have only a 3-4 pound loss to report - and this happened within the first 5 days. I have started a Tai Chi class twice a week. I have not cheated at any time, although I have skipped a breakfast here and there. (The sight of eggs makes me sick now.) Also, I didn't take any measurement before I started, so I have nothing to compare my current measurements with.
However, there are some important changes that are obvious to me.
I do not find myself hungry as often.
When I am hungry, I seem to get full faster and often can't finish what I am eating. (I find myself taking smaller portions.)
While there's no obvious change in the way my clothes fit, I do feel a bit slimmer and lighter. I notice it in how my body feels when I go up stairs or bend down. (My hips, thighs and butt don't feel like the lead weights they did.)
I am not gaining weight. This may seem like a strange thing to list as an asset, but I know that if I never started this diet, I would still be gaining.
So what are my choices?
I know (from past experience) that if I stop this diet, I will gain weight. No question.
If I stick with it - say a month minimum - I know I will not gain, but may also lose more weight.
Eleven days is not a long time (even though it feels excrutiatingly slow). 8-13 pounds in 2 wks, sounds great but if instead someone asked me to sacrifice 2 months of my life to have my old body back, I would feel that was more than worth it! Wouldn't you? I know that even if I feel disappointed in how little I have lost, the point is that I have lost and will not continue to gain. I am better off than I was and it can only get better. What you need to consider is: What will happen if you turn back now?
That being said, here are my tips for hanging in there:
Take a reality check on your expectations. If losing the weight slowly means you're less likely to gain it back, isn't that worth it? (Or would you like to find yourself having to repeat Phase 1 several times?)
Stay busy. If you don't work full time, throw yourself into a project or hobby. Paint your living room. Plant a garden. Just don't make food the focus of your day.
Eat slowly and you will eat less. It takes 20 minutes for the "full/satiated" signal to get from the stomach to the brain. (Ever stop eating to take a phone call, only to find you aren't as hungry when you get back to your plate?) Can't seem to slow yourself down? Eat with chopsticks or with your other hand.
Eat small amounts often. I know this has been said, but I did this more in the beginning and that's when I had more success.
Stop weighing yourself. I don't let my age define me, so why should I let my weight? Looking and feeling good is what people (and you) will notice. Can you stop thinking in terms of pounds?
Anyway, I started this diet with several family members. None of them lasted a full week. I have good days where I feel light and energetic and bad days where I wonder if it's all worth it. But when I really think about what I can expect if I stop, I find that I am really in a better place than I was before SBD and in a better place right now than if I were to quit. |

| I'm a bit discouraged myself today. I'm on the 3rd day of the second week of Phase 1, and I lost 5 lbs. during the first week, none the first two days of this week, and today I'm UP a pound! What's that all about? I'm so proud of myself for sticking to this and not wavering once, but I want to see that 8-14 lbs loss like the diet claims! |

| I have been on the southbeach diet for 12 days and I have only lost 6 pounds. I have been at a standstill for 6 days. Most of the weight was lost in the first 4 days. I have not eaten any potatoes, pasta, no snacks except my cheese stick and laughing cow. So what's happening? I'm 52, in good shape and work out 3 times a week, and want to get to 170. I'm presently at 185. Is this normal that I'm not losing weight?? Any advice or encouragement is welcome. |
