I have been noticing recently in some health food sections some Diuretic Teas, which claim to help with water-weight loss and bloating.

It sounds good...but is it really effective? I'm assuming the weight loss would only be temporary...and wouldn't just drinking lots of water have kind of the same effect?

Anyone tried them?

You are right!

Yes - the weight loss would be temporary

Yes - drinking lots of water would have the same effect

Also, diuretic teas make you lose water that you might really need to hold on to. Water helps your kidneys function properly. It also helps keep a good balance of electrolytes and stabilize blood pressure.

Why drink something that will force your body to lose water when you might not need to. Regular water works with your body. If you don't need to lose much water weight, your body won't let you, unless you force it with something like a diuretic. Diuretic teas can also make you lose potassium and other nutrients that you need.

Of course, using them in limited moderation after you've consulted with your doctor, might not hurt.

I've tried them, and yes I lost a lot of water weight, because I had a lot to lose (about 7-10lbs), but the loss was very short lived. I have MVP and I don't need to drink anything that will make me lose potassium and magnesium.

BTW, caffeine can have the same effect as diuretic teas in some people.
