There is a sticky on it at the top of the before and after forum but here are the basics.
You need to host the picture somewhere on the Net that allows remote/"hot" linking. Two popular sites are www.imageshack.us or www.tinypic.com . Once you get to those sites, you have to follow their instructions for uploading the pics to their sites. It is helpful if you can either resize the pics beforehand, let the sites resize them to something reasonable (800 x 600 as the max. is a good size for this forum), or use their "thumbnail" options when providing the link in your post that will post a thumbnail (smaller image) that is clickable back to the actual stored image on their servers. The host sites tend to prefer this last option as it cuts down on their bandwidth issues.
Once the pic is hosted properly, you need to put some "code" into a post. Both of those sites give you multiple options. Pick the ones identified as being for phpBB forums or BBCode forums. The text syntax should use square brackets and "tags" like "[URL=....]" or "[IMG]" and the syntax should end with the same tags at the ends with slashes in front like "[/URL]" and/or "[IMG]".
If you resize the picture first before hosting it (you typically need some minimal level of photoediting software to do this and your printer or digital camera may have come with an application that will accomplish this.), you can simply use the URL itself and put the Image tags around it to display the pics. If you aren't quite sure how to do this, simply copy and paste the URL itself into a post, highlight the entire URL with your cursor and then look above the text box where you are typing for a series of buttons under the "Subject" field. On the right hand side you will see a button that says, "Img", and with the URL highlighted, just click that button it will add the Image tags properly. Just make sure there are no spaces between the square brackets and any text. It has to be one long continuous text string.
HTH! Good luck! You can do tests in the Test and Spam forum if you like or use the "Preview" button instead of the "Submit" button to see if it is all working properly before you submit it. Also make sure you have the option in your profile or in that particular post to make sure that the BBCode option for posting is enabled. |
