What is too much exercise? I am training for my first triathlon and my friends and family think I am CRAZY!! Swim 3 days week, spin two days, bike 2 days, run 4-5 days, strength train 2 days. Thank goodness the event is only 10 days away.....don't think I can keep this up forever! The good thing is that I eat all day long and still dropping weight......but I now eat extremely weirdly healthy...except for dark chocolate covered almonds that I am eating right now!!

As long as you feel OK and you get one full day of complete rest, I wouldn't worry about it. Make sure you taper far enough in advance of your tri

Thanks Kirian, that is a great link I have saved it in my bookmarks to continue looking into. Never knew there were so many different types.

Don't underestimate the value of rest/recovery and a good taper!

I workout quite a bit but I make sure to get at least one full day of rest a week. If my HR (check it every morning) tends to be on the high side, I will take an extra day or just go for an easy swim.

And, after a race, I take a min of 1-2 days off then do some active recovery: EASY 5 mile spin on my bike in the trainer then some good stretching.

Depending on the length of the race, I will take a 1-3 week taper where I decrease my distances but increase the intensity of the exercise.

As far as how much I exercise, here are my current totals so far this year:
Bike: 130h 6m 47s – 2,242.84 Mi
Run: 86h 3m 07s - 582.85 Mi
Swim: 47h 4m 58s

Happy training!

i need the gym for my sanity, because my job is pretty stressful at times. i try to aim for 5 days a week at the gym, but i am constantly walking everywhere on the weekends. on saturaday mornings my fiance and i go to the gym together and he keeps me motivated by going to the gym everyday which keeps me going most days even when i am exhausted.

it keeps me wanting to eat well, but i found in my first month, i didn't lose a lot of weight, but i lost a lot of inches and gained a lot of muscle, so i am still happy.

quick question: how much faster do men start showing results than women when it comes to strength training. my fiance and i started at the same time and he is starting to look really buff already and i only look buff when i am in the midst of working out. he doesn't do nearly as much cardio as i do either. is that the result of more testosterone in men? i am thinking that is it. when do women start seeing results? i feel it in my clothing, but can't really see anything yet.

Yes. It's due to their higher level of testosterone.

Each woman is different. But I believe as each woman's overall body fat percentage decreases, they're able to see the different muscle tones. So, keep doing what you're doing, definately keep doing more and more cardio... and you'll see results. :)

My DH works out every single morning. Yes, every day. I don't think he's ever had a day off unless he's really sick or something. It's just his daily routine.

Anyways, if him and I started the same day doing weights or what not .... he definitly shows the results quicker than me. It's amazing. Makes me sick really. It's just not fair.

Everyones body reacts differently. I can't lose any weight unless I do vigorous excersise like spinning 4 times a week. I can run 4 miles a day and not lose that much weight. It's wierd. Maybe because I'm using my big leg muscles when I'm spinning.
